moving.pictures' studies (long time no see, going at it again!!)

    So here i am, folks

just a basic introduction, to get it over with

I'm 24 years, living in Vienna, currently in nurse school and trying my best to live life to the fullest

I've been in love with CG for a long time now (~6 years) but i've never got the balls to try it myself - well, i've tried my hands on 3dsmax a few years back but never got past amateurish stuff so i dropped it again, and then in the last 2 years or so i've really fallen in love with 2D (concept) art and since then i've been on and off this site making my way through all of the awesome sketchbooks and the finally finished section

and then it happened...as i was doodlin' around in class this spring it finally hit me: "aarrrgh, dude, you can't draw sh*t!! DO SOMETHING!!"

so, in the next days i've started my lifelong journey of learning the tools of the trade...been loving it ever since...so here we go, i'll divide my scans over the next few posts...come take a look, tell me what you think and most importantly give me honest feedback to help me make the most out of it!

thank you guys, see you around,

UPDATE: 05.07.2011 SCROLL TO BOTTOM FOR NEW STUFF!!

    cheers, dave

Excellent life drawings, but you might want to study color theory when you get the chance.

puh, kinda slow day today, wish i'd drawn more, dammit...anyways, small update, nothing fancy, just some facial expressions referenced with the help of a small mirror on my desk, let me tell you, it's wasn't easy drawing from a mirror, not used to that and all that frowning made my face hurt, haha

You have some really good things going on.. I'm especially fond of the 50's style lady and the portrait of the man right after that. I've noticed though that you tend to get a stiff look and there are some proportion problems. My advice that is when you start out on a portrait, don't move into the individual features for a while. Move around the whole portrait, find the relationships between things like the jaw bone and the cheekbones and as they become accurate they will tell you where the individual features are. Hope that helps!

just a few studies and the failed attempt at a portrait, tried to use the previous shading techniques for coloured paper but forgot to keep track of the proportions and now the eyes are waaaayyy to big, so damn it

figured i need to really get the basics together to ever take a shot at the art department and put together a decent portfolio so for the next few weeks i'm gonna do mostly studies - beginning with the skull and moving on to the neck/shoulders over the next days my goal is to finish basic human anatomy in a month and then begin extensive figure drawing & character studies and i'll try to fit in a few personal works for fun as well, so bear with me

    I'M BACK!! :D

woah, it's been two weeks already, sorry for the lack of updates...life's kinda got me on my balls right now, and not to mention my drowning in school assignments lately, and to make it all worse i'm now tired all the time and seem to lack the energy to do anything lately...puh, gotta figure this mess out well anyways, i still did a few studies in the last 2 weeks so i'm kinda proud that i was able to pull that off what with all the "other" things in the back of my head

so as you can see i continued to do my studies and the more i draw the more committed i get to see it all through, and to be honest i really had fun trying to recreate these detailed anatomic drawings

and yeah, i know, the most difficult part is not to let go of the big picture, the primary goal still is and should be understanding the human form and enabling me to draw better/correct anatomy, so as soon as i'm finished with the muscle studies i'm gonna tackle a few referenced/imaginative figure drawings...hope the studies will help me then

NEXT UP: MUSCLES OF THE HEAD/NECK AND TORSO

by the way, if you're interested, reference was taken from these books:
    - joseph sheppard: anatomy - a complete guide for artists
    - gottfried bammes: der nackte mensch
    - gray's anatomy 20th edition

    so here we go...

wow, it really has been too long! well, anyway, here's what i've been up to these past months, nothing too fancy, just trying to get back into the game. Here are some figure drawings (A4 size) i did last year, took me like 2 weeks each and strechted over 2-3 months till december.

For christmas i finally got a wacom tablet (i3) but it took me awhile to even get started drawing digitally...tried myself on a figure study in color, oh my what a hassle it was, took me like 30h to get to this stage, so much for a "quick" figure drawing

Your studies anatomy are looking really good. Your definitely improving. Try to be careful with the relationships in your forms and be sure to double check you measurements. I like your second large figure study the best I think. Keep at those studies!
