try out my augmented reality experiment!

I've been fascinated with augmented reality for a while now, and one day I decided to try it out for myself. I read a lot of different takes on AR and have been obsess with it ever since. the potential for this is overwhelming.

its free for non commercial use under the GPL (general public license), but you can purchase a license here if you want to make money off it.

the model I'm using for this test is from our own game IP, and a property of massiveblack studios. robot designed by Coro.

step-1. print out this pattern I made for this. this will serve as the area where the 3d object will load on.

    step-2. go to this link
step-3. click on allow when the flash player prompt pops up.
step-4. move the pattern towards the webcam.

you should see something like this.

i remember seeing this on Prototype This, where they used registration marks attached to player's backs and gloves to register the X, Y, Z coordinates, passing that behaviour on to their respective robot boxers. very cool tech. hope to see more stuff happen with it later on, looking forward to what MB has to offer

Tried it out, but i don't have a printer, i just inked an approximation. It was a little choppy, and sometimes it didn't register, no doubt because my inking sucks But it was really cool, thanks for sharing!

Im glad you guys dig this stuff. Im totally into it. heres another one that Ive been cooking up.

I love the idea of being able to see 3d objects in real life, but since star trek technology is not possible at the moment, we have this thing called augmented reality. imagine walking around and being able
to see 3d creatures or robots flying around with this.

note: have your tablet or laptop in a backpack, and attach the webcam on the glasses.

cool never seen those myvu glasses b4. have u tried them out?
That setup is crazy, imagine cruising around and using a camera lens as ur eyesight

Would be cool if the software had some sort of automatic tracking that picks logical reference points. Sort of like tracking in matchmoving but done in realtime and having the digital stuff register to those positions, instead of needing the little image for the registering.

I agree this tech is the next step imo, if it catches on i think we would see it impact in a big way

seetsy: its actually possible already, but the source code for that is far more complex than what Im using. I eventually would want to try it out once I get the full grasp on how FLAR(flash augmented reality) works.
