I like the last painting and the cool colors. It seems a bit heavy on the right side. My other suggestions is tighten up the outline on the people and not so wavy strokes on them. It's a peaceful setting to view over the holidays : )

Make a sketchbook happy, feed it a tip to improve!

Well I'm glad my comments were of some value (pun intended) to you. I may not have perfected my skills yet, but I know what to look for. LOL

So anyway, explain what "loosening up" means. I hear that term thrown around all the time and find it's more of an excuse for a sloppy technique rather than actually being helpful for most people. I mean, I understand what the intention is - laying down strokes in a fluid manner - but don't those strokes still have to be accurate once they hit the canvas and help shape the overall form? For example, I consider Frazetta a very loose painter, yet there is a lot of detail and solid form in his work and most people don't even notice how chaotic the strokes are. I donno, maybe I'm missing something here.

If people knew how hard I worked to get my mastery, it wouldn't seem so wonderful at all. -Michelangelo

There's a nice sense of form in your sketches.

i love your most recent enviro it's definitely one of my weakest areas. wish i could do like you do, where you can make 'chaos' look like so much detail! i'll have to study that next..

this is just a suggestion, i am not sure if it might help or make it better (might actually ruin it) - the side where it's of high contrast/value where it's bright pink, maybe make the snow there brighter, or even with pinkish highlights? i tried looking for afternoon snow ref but it seems either very dull or with intense highlights under blue sky, so i'm not entirely sure how that might work.

i still can't stop occasionally looking back to your mass effect painting huge fan of Mass Effect/Bioware myself and there's just something really alluring about the portrait.

Its been a while, I have been doing stuff but nothing worth uploading imo.
thanks for the comments guys, I will reply tomorrow, I-m tired now.

ok this is what I have done today, its an avatar based on my face, I took a crappy photo of myself and looked at some screenshots from the movie and this is the result, its unfinished, but I had enough of it for now.

Pigeonkill thas funny, those are supposed to be trees lol, my fault I really rushed that part
Scribble King I understand what you mean, in my case Im trying this style to gain confidence,
Im still not confortable painting with colors and I try just try to relax and choose the right colors without taking care of the details,
I also believe that having the ability to paint an image really quickly is very useful for color studies or if you are working with quick ideas for a concept.
there are also some really good artists that paint with this kind of impressionistic style and achieve awesome results, check Craig Mullins for example, some others are plain lazy I agree with that.
Its not the style Im looking for, but imo trying different things makes you a richer artist, instead of doing the same thing over and over again.
ninjacat11 thanks for the nice comment
AestheticMachine glad you liked it, it is one of my weakest, among many lol, got to work on that, I take note of your suggestion
    krel thank you Krel!
    palladiumThanks a lot!

Today I started a course at the statue museum of my city, its the closest thing to live model drawing that I have found so I will draw and paint staues 2 days a week now,
some students posed today for some really quick drawings, I really enjoy this

    Awesome sketchbook. Very inspirational!
My fav must be the environmental painting - Just love the colours and the texture of the left side of the mountain!

Can't wait to see alot more from you.

you make a great blue catman
do you think you will ever do a livestream or anything like that? it would be really great to see how you paint and sculpt out a face. especially for me, i tend to really overthink and then ruin the process - it would help a lot to watch someone in action.

jimmiegrunde thanks jimmie, I appreciate your comment
AestheticMachinehehe thanks m8, I dont have a certain method to do faces, my process is very messy and never the same, I dont think you would learn anything from watching that, apart from what shouldnt be done lol, Ill have to get a whole lot better before even thinking of doing a livestream

well I finally feel like doing something from imagination, Im trying to make a character similar to Echidne, a half woman, half monster/serpent that breeds other monsters, I guess it should have a sea monster look.
I will try to take the time doing a solid drawing before painting.
I will post wip steps, suggestions and constructive critique are very welcome on composition, color pallete, ideas..etc
here is what I have done so far

nonsense, i learn by watching everything, especially exploratory methods and from teachers who show their mistakes

awesome, i love monsters and i'm really looking forward to how you go about this

i don't want to be rude, just tried lining a little bit for anatomical suggestions.. i know not all characters are the same build and age, so just threw in some general things that might help to smooth out her form a little bit. or not, if that's the look you are going for

i could be wrong too since i'm still learning and anatomy is a lifetime thing, so if i made any foibles, i beg your pardon

That avatar is marvellous. You could put some more effort to the ear though. It looks a bit unfinished compared to rest of the head. AestheticMachine had some good points on his crit. I don't cause I'm really shit with composition and anatomy. Especially female anotomy which I find not so interesting. Does this mean I'm turning gay? Drawing does strange things to you I guess. Will be back for sure.

Hey MrChow! Your Sketchbook is great! The last two Portraits are awesome, like the warm colors and the blue eyes of your latest Portrait. Cool stuff, really excited to see more.
