Matt's Fantabulous Sketchery of Wonderment
Hello, I'm Matthew and I'm 15. Now that I've already let you know too much, I'll just go ahead and post my crap.
I hope to improve. I encourage criticism, so point out all my flaws, give tips, and hopefully enjoy.

Long time no post.
My chief failing seems to be my inability to produce much work.
December 28th, 2009 #5
It's been one of those days where you completely doubt yourself as an artist. God, I hate those days.
February 21st, 2010 #6
So, sorry for the recent inactivity. I've been trying things out, juggling ideas, starting paintings that I never finished and generally being the opposite of productive.
I've improved a bit since my last post and I have a few sketches to put up here, but right now I'm far too tired to scan them. Hopefully from now on I'll start uploading more to this sketchbook o' mine.
Anyway, the first is my most recent accomplishment, a commissioned piece and hopefully an improvement over my last painting. The second is a crappy and quick sword design that was done as a design for somebody and hopefully, it'll actually be made.
Tell me what you think.

Digging the one above the sword.

Hey guys, I'm back.
Well, I have half a cheap Morrisons sketchbook full of sketches that I cant post, because my scanner hasn't been working and I'm far too lazy to fix it.
So, here's my most recent digital painting:
Anyways guys, what do you think? If you have any advice at all, please give it .
I think I have been improving. I've got my workflow down now, so I should get quicker as well.

Long time no post.
Been traveling up and down the country a lot. I've haven't been painting as much as I'd like, partly due to laziness, partly due to business.
Anyways, here's what I've been up to:
I love criticism and any help you can give will be greatly appreciated .

New Stuffs! Also, yay, 17 in 2 days!
It's been quite a long time of working on stuff and then never actually finishing. I'm getting quicker however, and I plan to work on a bunch of paintings relating to a fantasy world which has World War 1 level technology. That last image I've been working on since last night, maybe around 2 and half hours. I think I'm getting quicker. I fucking hate that Cammy picture though, I thought about maybe not posting it, it sucks so much.
I'd be very thankful for any criticism.

Only 16!? That's impressive man, the digitals look great, would like to see some studying to supplement the imagination work. Otherwise, keep updating!
December 22nd, 2010 #15
Thank you very much Nuemann, I agree, I need to do more studies, studies of anatomy in particular. Would just going on to Posemaniacs and sketching a bunch of them out for a particular amount of time each day be a good place to start?
December 23rd, 2010 #16
Yeah, Posemaniacs are good for warming up and getting a feel for flow. I recently discovered this post from Loathsome though http://conceptart.org/forums/showpos...&postcount=247
Contains a link for a download of a TON of nude references. So I'm working from that now. Check it out!

Here's something I painted partially from reference. It didn't take awfully long.
I am now 17!
The more I look at this painting, the more terrible the head gets.

Lots of moving around, not much painting or drawing. Despite this I seem to have improved in some areas.
Having lots of fun with my Steam-punk fantasy World war 1 inspired universe. Old fair-grounds seems to be the inspiration for how I picture the cities looking in my head.
May 13th, 2011 #22
good stuff man! your colours are so vibrant! Keep goin you're definitely doing alot better!
May 17th, 2011 #23
Thanks so much for the comment . I'm glad I'm improving, also, my colours are sort of inspired by old fairground rides. Colourful but dull at the same time .
Here's a new painting that I finnished just now. Didn't take me very long but I'm really happy with the skintones. It was an exercise in perspective, a terrible weak-point of mine.

Fiddled around with the cowboy a bit more and did some sketches for new paintings.
May 19th, 2011 #25
Morrisons?? Thats a bit posh innit!? Poundland all the way!
Seriously though youre doing great, each one is better than the one before, and starting so early means by the time youre 25 youll be amazing. great work, keep it going!

I've completed another painting. (Yey!) It's a little guy inspired by myself sitting on a pipe fishing. It's called Nuclear Fishin', see what I did there? I was trying something a bit different, a landscape, something I'd never done before. It actually started as a speed painting and then I just kept working on it and working on it, that happens to me a lot.

I really like your creepy steam punk WW1 soldiers. I'd love to see more from that.
The far side of the fisherman (fisherkid?) 's body in this last one seems awkward, though. I think the arm is scrunched in or rotated around strangely or something. The upper arm position on that side seems off anyhow.
June 1st, 2011 #28
Thank you for the compliment my friend, I will definitely work on some more of those soldiers.

Just some sketches I did today. The two on the right were done in painter, I've never used painter before. I think I prefer photoshop.
2nd image is a quick sketch that I did when coming up with ideas for another painting. I tried to explore a new style with it, I kinda like it.

I finished the Rhodesian soldier. Rhodesia, now Zimbabwe was ruled by a segregationist white minority at one point. Here is a soldier fighting for that government during the bush war. The Rhodesian bush war was a dark violent and interesting conflict, showing some of the best and worst in people. It was another leg of the cold war, and it never really receives much attention in fiction, which I think is a shame, as it's so interesting. I always liked the look of Rhodesian soldiers, with their sun bleached beards. It always looked like their main enemy was the scorching African sun.
