Here's the framed version of the Teen Challenge entry. Also, the bird way up at the top left is meant to be away and above the rest, since it's an eagle, and is preying upon the other birds.

those CA memes are hilarious xD
Thanks for stopping by my page and checking out my [crappy year old] sketchbook in that video.
I love your most recent post - the teen challenge. The atmosphere is really quite beautiful although at first I couldn't tell if the birds were flying between mountains or clouds. Either way it works well and the color choices are lovely.

Elwell's rants are always so awesome, especially in the "don't have motivation, what do?" type threads. I couldn't resist posting this in the cheer me up thread.

Thanks zerdron. Quick update on the challenges, I won the Teen Challenge by default, the other entrant got disqualified because they entered late. And I won the IDW with 6 votes against 4, pretty close.

One day I might get the badges.

Here's some pictures of the awesome sketchbook you heard about in post #85. Posted this in the "F*ck Moleskines" thread, and wanted to post it here. Might be hand-made, I can't find any marks that show who made it.

Great ideas and outstanding design sense.
Your signature designs are really mindblowing.
What I noticed a few pages back is that you
really lack of anatomy knowledge, and drawing
or painting the human body is your real enemy currently.
I am sure that you will get better at this aspect also,
of course if you will be into drawing human beings.
Good job overall, keep it up.

Thanks LtPlissken. I've finally started studying anatomy, and books by Loomis and Bridgman, and I'll put up some of it soon. For now though, this week's Teen Challenge is "Black and White". No colour allowed, and no greys.

I thought of two things when I read the theme; Film Noir detectives, and Frank Miller's Sin City. So why not combine the two?

    Process .gif:

◘♦◘ Art Of Choob ◘♦◘ Fantastic Five

And a possible final. Want to do more work on lighting and such, but since it's no grey allowed, then meh.

Thanks guys. Don't think I'm winning on the Teen Challenge, some of the other entries were awesome, but had fun doing it.

Well, it's about time I posted some of my new sketchbook. Cute little A5 one which I'm in love with. It's not got any finished work in it, or beautiful sketches, because it's mainly for learning the absolute basics, which I have neglected terribly.

It's in order so you can see what improvements I've made. Firstly, a quick study of one of Jama's portraits for the front page, and then some basic head construction from a Loomis book. Oh, and notes made while watching Jason and Zhanglu's female portraits video.

Then some shapes, and trying out different techniques of head construction.

◘♦◘ Art Of Choob ◘♦◘ Fantastic Five

◘♦◘ Art Of Choob ◘♦◘ Fantastic Five

◘♦◘ Art Of Choob ◘♦◘ Fantastic Five

Reilly method practice of life drawing, and then a quick sketch of a guy's face from a photo.

◘♦◘ Art Of Choob ◘♦◘ Fantastic Five

◘♦◘ Art Of Choob ◘♦◘ Fantastic Five

Notes on staging and storyboarding, and a little bit of Bridgman, I'm finding his work much more useful than the advanced Loomis or Hogarth stuff at the moment, since it's focused on basic shapes.

◘♦◘ Art Of Choob ◘♦◘ Fantastic Five

◘♦◘ Art Of Choob ◘♦◘ Fantastic Five

◘♦◘ Art Of Choob ◘♦◘ Fantastic Five

Then some practice of shapes, how to hold the pencil, and coilframes, from that video I posted in MatthewHD's sketchbook.

◘♦◘ Art Of Choob ◘♦◘ Fantastic Five

◘♦◘ Art Of Choob ◘♦◘ Fantastic Five

◘♦◘ Art Of Choob ◘♦◘ Fantastic Five

And lastly, some more Bridgman. I recently discovered that while I love drawing knees, I can't actually draw legs for toffee.

When Android posted the link to Painter 12, I gave it a go, and I have to agree with him and Dan Milligan, the brushes are truly awesome. Paint feels like paint, pencil feels like pencil, and oils? Oh, the loosey goosey is making me juicy. :3 I've just got myself Painter 11, and played around for a bit, and it feels so much better than Photoshop. Will be doing some studies in it soon.

Thanks MatthewHD. So, late last night after making a birthday card I had an urge to draw. It was about half one in the morning, but hey why not, I LIVE DANGEROUSLY. I really love a certain sketching style, like this:

Just look at the way they've found the shapes, and used the little bumps made by their hand to make it look awesome. Love it. So, sketched a drawing found in someone's sketchbook here (forget who, sorry), done in the same-ish way.

And notes from Marko Djurdjevic's video on line quality.

Thanks Beeston. I'm trying to work my ass off also, but did pretty much nothing this week, tut tut. And next week will be even worse, T in The Park next weekend, like Glastonbury is Scotland. Can't wait to see Coldplay!

IDW this week is to design a bunch of weapons for "Holy Hand Grenade & Co." As a monty python fan, there's no way I could miss this one, but that said, spent most of today playing football and have tennis booked tomorrow.

    Here's mine so far.

Did a bunch of quick silhouettes, and decided on these ones. A basic and deluxe grenade, a bomb (will be called The Purifier or something), a grenade launcher, and a huge Magnum, called the Nubuchadnezzar. Clint Eastwood inspired of course.

Thanks for the encouragement guys, makes me all tingly inside. I've been browsing through the best sketchbooks on CA recently, and I really like the little 60 second sketches in Algenpfleger's Sketchbook, the ones where you're not allowed to life the pen off the page. Did some doodles of these, some from head, others from ref. And thought about using one of the faces as an avatar, but I think Clint Eastwood is still more awesome.

First page is just doodles, and then onto the 60 second studies.
