Here is an update on my gangster painting. I did what you suggested and added some color variation to his face, amongst other small changes.

Hey man. I really liked the inks on post 235. The finished piece looks great also. You probably noticed the eyes not being aligned in the photo study, but were probably focusing on the skin tones, which you nailed. Awesome stuff.

    Hey Verne!

You've been up to some good stuff lately, i like how that "last man standing" painting is turning out, capturing their character very well. And those pages full of sketches a few posts back are wonderful.

    No crits, keep it up!!

The gangster painting really caught my eye here. Great depth and colours going on there.

@Bergulf - Thanks! Its an old painting Ive been recently dusting off and bringing up to date. Its been a favorite for people even in its first less refined stages

@AustenFM - lol nice one Verne Thanks for the compliments! Im happy you enjoy my work

@Featheredface - Right on! Skintones are something i need to remember more often

@vatteh - Thanks very much ya I think I was more focused on the lighting and color in that one. But I try to get it all right if possible. His eyes were a big off center to be honest.

Here a couple new quick drawings. I never really draw with pencil but came across a mechanical pencil of mine and decided to give it a go. Also, I rarely draw girls I need to draw them more, and sexy ones!

Did a few more drawings. I realized after reading a bit of an anatomy book that people are not ripped all the time lol. Muscles are typically only defined when someone is flexing. So I wanted to do some progression of really ripped to not much muscle at all. I think I will be thinking more about putting in realistic anatomy into my drawings more.

@weashell - Thank you :o Its hard to tell sometimes if I am improving and I think even with you saying that its still hard to see. I think as long as I am learning then improvements should exist

Hey Sunny! what program do you use? the choices of textures you use are really neat, I like the last character concept you posted. Your right when you mentioned that people in real life aren't as ripped as they are in anatomy books, I know plenty of guys that look "less" ripped but are stronger then some people that do extreme diets or surgery to make themselves look more ripped, but are surprisingly very weak (muscles are swollen with water weight) . Bruce Lee had painful surgery to make his abs look defined, I always tell this to my classmates who are always making "super hero" characters that look like they could be chip-and-dales strippers.
The guy with the black hair looks realistic to me, he looks really tough, but naturall.

Hi Shia, Thanks for the comment! I use photoshop. I tried to use painter and it does produce cool results sometimes but I always end up taking it back into photoshop :p Textures is something i want to do more of and get better with. Still not 100% confident in my use of them, or how to produce them. I use photographs and photographic reference.

Your right about the muscles thing but I didnt know Bruce Lee did that :o I heard he used to electrocute himself to get that look and muscle reflex speed.

Im happy you see that in the black haired guy. I was really going for that actually. I wanted him to seem like a tough dude. A guy who maybe worked in the mines his whole life so he is just strong as a horse. Not a body builder. Body building really is about sculpting perfect shapes and definition.

    nice!
Make sure it doesn't look too much like red dead redemption tho, it has the same theme and uses similar brush strokes and people might link it too much to that instead of your secret project (tho not knowing what your secret project is, makes it hard to judge that now ). So be careful with that, but i think it looks unique and cool so far, keep it up
