...so, I started up this sketchbook last night and my connection dropped. It doesn't happen to appear in where I can search all threads started by me so I will start again. This is a fresh start for me. I have spent far too long dwelling on past hardships...I lost my girl from 8 years and now it is time to start work. I want to improve in drawing and digital painting...so...
1. I will draw
2. I will improve
3. Im ready for the long road
4. I want to do kick ass concepts
5. I need your whips and crits to get me through

Sketches done yesterday eveing and early hours of this morning. 1st is from a photo reference and 2nd is some random brain dribbles, just to have some fun...
I need to draw from life, I know
Xeon Thanks for stopping by. Ok.....c'mon, we gotta keep this going. Dropped into the library and found Bridgman So Started with a few studies of that. My line sucks! Practice i guess. here's so far...
Pages 1, 2 & 3 - Bridgman...
Page 4 - A little doodle that I would like to try and work up in photoshop
I also got alchemy so I will have a play with that later. Right now I need to clean....myself....
Those Bridgeman studies are looking good and solid!
Now, drive on, you fucking mare! Draw more, yes! Draw more! Give it to us now, yes! More!!!!
Just kidding lol. Now you're on the right track, and I gotta go back to my own art.
And make it a point to draw something everyday.
johanson Thanks for stopping by good to know the points I made are legitimate.
Xeon Im working on my drawings when I can outside studies and work. Just wish I could quit my job to get in more time, lol.
Here's some more...
1. Leaf studies (as autumn is upon us) - Concentrating mainly on line. Trying to use line weight to suggest form.
2. 10 gesture warm up from imagination to see if bridgman is working for me and I think it is. I will do more of these.
3. More G.Bridgman studies and I'm loving this book. I'm going to invest in a copy I can keep...
Oh and, I also found that I feel alot more confident working on sheets of paper rather than in a sketchbook. I feel like I can make much more bolder descisions. Working in a sketchbook I am concious of going wrong, on seperate paper not so much.
Today has been quite good fun Started the day with some photoshop fun. I really like all that mouth watering abstract concept work. Seeing Pao's Speedpainting thread just had me in awe. So I decided to give it a try...yes it was unsuccessful, but it is a start none the less. Just playing with shapes really with nothing particular in mind. I really like the idea of the first one, just that at this stage I was finding it really difficult in what to do to further work things up. I have to thank Pao for sharing his brushes on Deviant Art, as this is what I was using. So credit to him
After some digital play time I moved back onto more Bridgman studies...comments and criticism always a welcome sight. Thanks
Hot, dude! The leaves look very nice! I gotta take reference from you regarding that "using line to suggest form".
Glad to see that you do digital paintings too!
Now, I think the next thing we're gonna see is full color portraits?
Thanks for stopping by again Xeon. I think that using line in that way is a good exercise. It really helped me in pencil control. Try it out. Full colour portraits would be a great thing I'll try some soon.
I was playing with alchemy last night and got this shape, so I decided to work it up a bit before bed last night...it reminds me of Overlord...
Minor update. A sunset to play with colour. This could be a lot better having spent more time on it, but I started to get a little bored of it. Afterwards I moved on to an onion study, from photo reference. More soon....
draw from life as much as you can.
Kfeeras Thanks for your comment It is much appreciated. As soon as I saw your reply I sat in front of the mirror for an attempt on my first ever self portrait. This is 1 hour, and it was a hard 1 hour. I really really despise this drawing! But strangely i feel compelled to do more in hope that I will get one that actually looks like me. I will continue more with these...
....ok, last one for today. A line drawing from life. Meet my broken lamp, it's over ten years old and still shining (just) I'm fairly happy with this one compared with my last drawing. This was alot of fun to do. More tomorrow.... Night CA
Two more, done before bed last night. More later...after written work
Just look at the shit we have here! That pencil drawing of the lamp is one of the most fantastic: clean work and solid lines. I'm amazed that you even drew the entire neck of them lamp with those tiny plastic benders on the neck. Must have taken you a long long time eh?
The self portrait is WAY above average!
The bottom drawing of the bird's head is lifelike too. I assume you reference that from a photo? Because it's hard to keep a bird still, even if it's your own bird. LOL
Last week or so, you were depressed and all, but look at your work now. I think by next year, you can at the very least land a decent illustration job, if not, even better.
I find that I can learn more from people like you and Taneli, as opposed to some of the top dos, since all you see in their sketchbooks are completed paintings.
Keep it up!
Marian - Thank you for stopping by. Your sketchbook was a pleasure to look at
Xeon - Thanks man, It was you that gave me the final push I needed. Yes the bird was from photo reference. I am hoping by next year I can at least be making some money doing portraits while I'm at uni. A long way to go yet I know Keep up your hard work.
Ok, It's not much. I have had work and "skool" A few doodles of people drawn from life in class and an attempt of a cast I found in a gallery today. Sorry it's not more. The weekends almost here, so hoping to get alot of work in
Oh man, I love your Bridgeman studies.
And that bird looks really good, did you use reference?
Very nice studies. IMO all you need is practice. The more you'll do it, the faster you'll get to 4. Keep going, you got what it takes
Helaine - Thanks The bird was from ref yes.
Xeon - Thanks for your persistence in checking up on me
maximunki - Tone! yes you are right. I will do that. Thanks for the advice
GeoD - Thanks so much for the support, it's much appreciated.
Here only two pages from the past two days. Again, working and college all in the same day. It's really tiring. But, now I have 3 whole days off from both, so I'm hoping to spend that time well to draw.
1st is more bridgman, I'm slowly getting through this book This page was challenging.
2nd is another self portrait. Using the mirror again. Much better than my last, although my eyes are too small and I'm still staying in H grades. I need to go darker.
Here's two more....Bridgman study for warm ups and moved onto studying a bottle from life, of which I spent most of the afternoon doing. Whole sheets not complete as I'm losing concentration, however my concentration is starting to last longer Which I think is a good sign....
...ummmm....here's a personal piece of work I have spent the morning and afternoon doing...I would be greatful for opinions on this...

Here I decided to start a rough sketch for the upcoming festivity. I just cant get those hands....i will try again, tomorrow. Sleep now...
The self portrait looks ok but once you've made the constrast more obvious between the different shades of lights and darks, it will be hot!
The most amazing thing so far is the glass bottle sketch. I can tell at once it has a shiny reflective sort of glassy surface.
The two paintings with the guy hanging down his head makes great comic work! Like the school's hero feeling sad and sitting down in his school hall. It's intriguing.
Hi! Nice update! I think the lighting on his cloth look pretty good ^^
As for the face... More face study is needed, I think! Especially the nose
Keep on posting!
good sketches dude and love the mood on that piece with the writing in the background, keep it up
