Thanks for the tips! I gave it a shot to actually make the light much harder and warmer to suggest he is in a desert. This is how it looks now and I think I don't have mcuh left, will probably start the next picture and come back to this one afterwards.

Ive done a bit more work to the clothing, still need to tackle to foot though, Im not sure whether to leave it bare or make a shoe. The dreamcatcher backpiece might have a banner along the top of it, letting two ribbons fall from either side.
    Critics please!

Vampire ninja nice stuff! I would suggest you sharpen the character's outlines a bit more to bring them out and apart from your bg. right now they look a bit melded together, just my 2 cents.
Thanks, I revisted the piece, those comments REALLY help me clear parts of it up. If anyone else has feedback I'd really appreciate it. Thanks to the Conceptart community!

So this is what I have going so far for Le Colombarium. I totally envision this girl going to like a french marketplace and buying flowers or something. I relaly like her. Here are some basic colors and rough figure shenangins.

    Current WiP...
Still have to figure out what exactly I want to do with the legs, the left hand and the lightning... maybe I should think about clothing as well^^
final anatomical corrections will only come after that :>

(I should probably start working on the second character...)

    E:
lulz, I love her right arm. totally messed up xD

    So many awsome entries!

I don't think I've ever made as many sketches for different chars that I have now for ChOW ever... But after trying out several things for all of the songs, I've landed on doing two in one image instead.

Soo.. Twisted Sisters, I guess. Need more work in B&W before colours. Thankful for all crits. And I don't look forward to trying to get the colours in my head onto the greyscale at all..

    Bad Computer!

Don't think I'm going to get this done now :op. Computer crashed in the middle of a save and the entire PSD is gone :op. Ah well, another time.

There is so much cool stuff on this thread it wouldn't have stood a chance anyway. Can't wait for the finals ^_^

Based on the cultures of the pre-Columbian America, my characters are set in a fictional word for an RPG game that doesn’t take itself too seriously. “Waltzin' Black” reminded me of the game Chrono Trigger. It also made me visualize a funny drunken llama looking for trouble in a bar.

Here are some WIPs with some descriptions:

    Olontetl
A rascal, streetwise orphan, but ultimately with a big hearth. He rides a flying surf board. He will come to realize that an ancient spirit is trapped in the board.

    Ixcatzin
A llama that has a soft spot for alcohol. When less expected, he’s able to resolve a dangerous situation with his strange methods, as well as to create new problems with his irreverence. He has grown to be a good friend for Olontetl.

    Yolcaut
Back from the other world to finish some old business.
He doesn’t talk much; but he hides very powerful dark magic in his musical instruments. Olontetl doesn’t know it, but he’s his grand son.

And here are some thoughts about the process. Maybe you can help me:

    1) I’m having problems with the llama. I don’t know if the pose is effective. I also think the kid should radiate more energy.

    2) As usual, I’m afraid of laying every idea I’ve got over the character. I know I need to make sacrifices. For example, I want the llama to carry some big backpack but that might interfere with his erected figure and/or his poncho. I’m trying to find a way to accelerate these decisions.

    3) Should the character be involved in more dynamic positions or actions? Or should they assume a neutral pose to offer a good vision of body proportions and details?

    4) My initials sketches are very small, and they were made with a thick, pasty pencil. As a result, their lines and constructions are very simple and powerful. I wish I could find a way to keep that freshness in the finished linework. Maybe I should try to paint directly over the oversized little sketches.

    5) It also bothers me that a very big part of the time I’ve got left till deadline, will have to be spent in coloring, painting, etc. Though I love that phase of the process, I feel like that time should be dedicated to the “design” aspect (the more crucial aspect after all).

It was actually bouroune that made that comment about the hands. :-)

Amber: I would go for the second one too. Nice change from the usual snake charmer type. The guy looks great by the way.

A late entry here. First WIP, worked on it while listening to Le Colombarium for her, and Bombora for him. My original intention for these two was completely different. The music kind of took over the designs.

So what I ended up with was a sixties-esque U.S. meets British spy theme going. I'm a bit surprised and delighted.

Am I going in the right direction? Not sure if I'll be able to finish before the deadline (I'm Slow and busy), but I felt inspired.

Wow zimfin that is one gorgeous looking background! Can't wait to see the result of that picture.

LeoListens I really dig that style you got, and the South American theme, great idea! Funny it seems we both fell for a sort of cloth mask for Yulunga

For my second picture I initially had in mind to do Marco Polo, but since so many others have already gone with that combination and as I didn't really come up with anything satisfying, I chose to do Delightful Rain instead. I am thinking of an adventurous explorer, Indiana Jones-sort of dude, but a bit too sanctimonious and self-confident for anyone to really enjoy his company, though he doesn't bother at all. Here is a wip:
