Self Portrait in Oils
Hey guys, just trying to get a few opinions on this. Now this is just the first layer over the drawing i settled with, so those dark outlines should fade away. I dont have a photo to show reference as I'm using a mirror for this assignment.
sorry for the now obvious crap picture every time I press the button I shake the camera even after it focuses >|
edit : update?

Your ear is probably too small and too far down. Typically the top of the ear is at the top of the eye. I realize your head is tilted but even accounting for that it doesn't make up the difference. The jawline could probably use some re-looking too, its very difficult to get that line in correctly with your head tilted, I know . The most important thing with painting is to never lose your drawing. Its definitely coming along nicely though.

If you draw the line for the eyes and extend it through the side planes, I think that you'll see that the ear might be a little too far back. This also helps give the impression the ear is too low. Moving the ear forward and up will also help shorten the jaw.
Besides that its looking good! Meh, I just quit my art class (school started) right before we started head painting. I'm a bit jealous :]
