You should go out and buy it!
Hee hee, if thats true then I really did my job, thanks very much for that.
As far as sketches go your pretty much looking at them with the process shots; I dont do line-work, I lay down a base background color and then have at it, I sketch in dark colors with a big brush to get basic blobs and then light them and clean them up. The first panel is pretty much day one.

Daylight lighting schemes is still something I consider a weakness so that means a lot.

Shit that sounds like something id love to read!
Im glad you approve of the atmosphere, thats something I really strive for.
Ill gladly join you rubbing my own kicked ass, there has been a lot of full frontal ownage being posted around here lately; a lotta sore balls and asses walking around from all the talent posting thier new stuff.

The fact you didn't fold under that pressure is awesome and inspiring Beautiful illustration. lulz at space hit n run.

I'm not sure if maybe I missed it in this thread, but may I ask how you did the metal texture for the Hog? (I think it's the Hog.. I fail at Halo lore) I've been experimenting with trying to get that kind of grungy/used look, I'm not sure if maybe I'm using textures or brushes wrong though.

How do you upload videos from your Fileshare on Halo 3 onto your PC? I've wanted to put some of my videos onto Youtube but I don't know how to upload them from Halo 3 onto my computer. Does anyone know how?

Thanks again for your support Serpian, the compliments and enthusiasm really mean a lot to me! I appreciate you thinking its top notch work, but I feel like it could have been so much better had I been schooled properly instead of self-taught. For me being able to deliver under the gun feels like its less about skill and more attributed to having a lot of practice at channeling fear and anxiety into anger and then focusing it into my art.

At least thats what I do and I was terrified of messing up this gig!

Always fantastic.
    Corspufo thank you very much!
You can absolutely be successful while being a stay at home daddy, in fact id have to say that my daughter has without question only fueled my desire to be a better and more sucessful artist. She makes me want to be a better man and in doing so inspires me to reach deeper into myself and be an example, make no mistake; they do what you do, not what you say.
By choosing to be a stay at home daddy during the day and working at nights and on weekends I also choose to have a slower career pace, which means im going to have to learn even more patience and practice even more discipline in my craft to stay competative - both good things in my eyes.

While the victories come slower they are much sweeter when you have a family to share them with.

Stay tough Corspufo, stay focused and work your balls off.

Thanks so much for the kind words and for taking the time to comment everyone!
    God Bless,
    -Brad

Thanks for the kind words AM!
I get that texture by using a really huge dodge brush and then going over it with a 40% opacity watercolor brush using a dark value, then go over it again with the dodge. Working on 1 layer helps with bringing that stuff out.

I think the Warthog is a little too short in the back but I ran out of time and simply couldnt fix it all - the deadline was sheer insanity.

They paid me more than ive ever made on a piece of art.
But it felt better to get it in on time and that they said they were impressed with the results tha it did to get the check.
Its all about meeting challenges and getting better for me.

Besides my wife just takes it all and does something with it...Ill get a meal or 2 passed through a slot in the door and hosed down by men in uniforms once a day in between contracts.

    Heh! Just kidding!
Its actually 3 meals a day.

Your rendering technique was startlingly familiar to me, then it hit me, they look similar to Michelangelo's painting technique. His Doni Tondo, as well as most of the figurative work on the ceiling of the Sistine Chapel come to mind.

I guess what I'm trying to say is, nice work.

Whats going down with your bad selves ladies and gents?

Here's some more pieces Ive had the pleasure of working on for Bungie.

I figure its pretty safe to post these low res versions since both of these images have been on the internet for months.

The first one was for an EDGE magazine cover and interior double-page spread, it was an enormous piece to work on clocking in at about 5700 pixels wide.
Some of the background was intentionally left amorphous and loose to accomodate letterhead, I also had to use a cut and paste paint overs on the guns and helicopter due to time contraints (4 days to finish the approved sketch) but the rest was exhaustedly hand-drawn.
Having to do paintovers is something I really hate doing but when it comes to commercial work all bets are off; its not about your unique voice and vision anymore its about delivering what a client expects and has contracted you to do.

Ive also included a couple of rough concepts I put together for inspiration during the pre-pro talks I was having with the design team guys when we were initally knocking around ideas for the cover.

The second work was for a christmas charity auction for Child's Play which is just a kick-ass charity founded by Penny Arcade, you can find out all about it here: http://www.childsplaycharity.org/

You can also check out the actual charity event photos here if you like http://gameinformer.com/blogs/member...r-auction.aspx

This one was a beast for several reasons and it didnt have to be, but I made it hard on myself because I couldnt get my ego out of the way and as a result I delivered something that could have been better. Hopefully you guys can learn from my folly.
As I mentioned I hate using paintovers for a lot of reasons and decided that id not use any on this, so I started with the tank in the back and finished it moving toward camera.
That was a big mistake and I wasted valuable time trying to get the tank right at that difficult angle and without a lot of the visual hallmarks that give it its distinguished profile and silhouette.
I should have been smart and used a paintover but I chose the asshole "ooOOOoohhh look at me" route.

Dont do that, be smart and professional; client 1st, ego 2nd.

I decided to smarten up and use a paintover for the gun, but as a result of wasting so much time the additional soldiers in the background suffered and came out sloppier than I would have liked.

Hopefully my blabbering with give some of you something useful to take with you.

I hope you enjoy it guys and gals, take care of yourselves and keep drawing!

PS - Youll have to reduce your browsers to about 75-50% to see several of these.

brad im out of words of praise. just go back and read any comment ive ever written on your past posts and youll know how i feel. i will say that its always very awesome to see your rough sketches though, so keep those comin. also, its incredible how you get the perspective and forshortening of all those geometrical pieces on the armor pretty much dead on..without ref!..i wish that part of my brain worked 1/8 as good as yours.

Outstanding work, Brad! I love how the compositions put the viewer right in the action. And the lighting is brilliant. You need to become THE official Halo artist

Oh god, I don't know how to properly express the way I feel having seen this... It's incredible, all your work is incredible. How you do this is beyond me, your paintings have such grace and economy of form, colour, everything. There is nothing there that doesn't need to be there, which is one of the hardest things of all. And the sense of weight and reality you achieve, it's staggering. You know, art is my passion, I want to make a living through it one day, and you are a genuine, massive inspiration and motivation. Thank you very much indeed.
