I'm confused. Is it floating just above the atmosphere or.. ? As far as I know, there is no solid ground on a gas giant and light can't penetrate the thick atmosphere. Maybe I'm just too picky.

I didn't specify What gas, or that it was a Gas Giant.. though it certainly Could be
since when does a city have to be on the ground?
how to build a city on the gas [planet is kinda the point
I can think of at least a dozen solutions to the problem...
there's no breathable atmosphere either....

OH, I will be watching this one. Alas, I cannot particpate yet, as I'm still finishing a final project that's due this week. I might try though, if I finish early enough. If not...I'll have to live vicariously.
This looks like a lot of fun though.

Hmmm perhaps something like this, a sort of a ring-shaped city around a Neptune-like ice giant.

First try at this, the idea behind mine is basicly a planet emitting fumes of a very hot gas, these fumetrails start all over the planet and go hundreds of kilometers above the atmoshpere. Between these dangerous gas trails future humans have started a colony to harvest this gas. Harvester ships, details of the atmosphere, more stations, service depots and all the other stuff are yet to be added.
tx for the tip Fuseboy, i'll redo the whole city

@Wixxi, I think you need to tilt your city to the left. "Vertical" lines should be perpendicular to the planet's horizon.
