Thank you Donna, NateShaw, and Bangalore_monkey!
    MUch appreciated.

So a little progress but obviously a long way to go. Thank goodness it's still Wednesday!

I know the skirt is super short, don't worry I'm gonna give her some leggings for decency.

Some really sexy sketches showing up. I'm loving it!

There are some very nice images this time around. I especially like the ones with a strong Indian influence. I started mine this evening and thought I'd post my progress .... I have a hard time remembering to save it along the way.

here's my entry so far- first time handing in something straight from the tablet, and my first time doing a dude O.o

i want him to still have some elements of the sioux tribe in his design- so far i've only gone with the feathers. i'm thinking about giving him a sioux knife and maybe some war paint too. still a lot a tinkering to do, but i'd appreciate any feedback.

    Wootage.

I love the idea of both characters, but I don't think I'll have enough time to do both.

Here's my wip so far for my chick.

Pulling a lot of ref from just Japanese pride, and of course yakuza tattooing and such.

Ironically I just went this last weekend to my international district and spent a good time looking through Japanese tattoos. It has helped.

Also trying to do the 'line' thing, and see if this will help at all when it comes to rendering for me.

    Cheers guys

    A few changes....

I'm listening to a couple of comments that I got and have made a few changes to my characters. I've "talled up" Akecheta and scaled down his hand. Ive also tried to make him a little younger. I just got busy with some work this week so I'm hoping to get back to this challenge cause I really am enjoying it.

I will render this up properly but I wanted to have a play with an illustrative style.

Wiggers - Looking forward to seeing it finished, but, man I love the pencil sketch.
Pxelslayer - why were you so hesitant? Looking good.
    Smuze - great action piece.
Zimfin - The paint work is looking good, her legs and upper body are looking great but I do think her waist maybe too long.
If you do agree I think it should be easy enough to cut out a section to shorten it.
Agentp - Congrats! Looks like you have fixed the proportion issues, looking forward to seeing it progress further.
Slash - Love the face, style and especially the pink highlighting, nice touch.
    dwinbotp - Sweet.
Pixeltuner - great pose and movement. I hope this doesnt sound odd but I really love the shape of her left leg, the thigh especially has the perfect shape.

I'm hoping to add the male character too. But cant decide wether to add him looking hesitant on this side of the wall where she cant see him or appearing vaguely in the darkness behind her.
i need to play with some poses for him first. any suggestions would be much appreciated.

Continuing to fiddle around with laying out the final comp and just roughing in some values. I need to add something to her design to make her a little more distinctive.

Hey Freshpaint, that's looking really cool. Seen your Hurakan silhouettes on artorder too. Which are also nice! Checked out your website. You've got a great collection of work. Looking forward to seeing more from you.

This is my design, the one on the very left is the actual sketch of the piece I'm doing, (it's been made smaller for the preview and of course the colors are there for planning at this point).

When designing this character I took the idea that this being a gang, she'd scavenge Items that would help her in fights (the swat vest and bat), she'd dress sort of a figure of authority to scare off gangs (the kabuki face paint and traces of kimono), also wears sunglasses that she probably stole to soften her killer stare. also the mandatory I don't give a hoot cigarette.

Would this fit the theme you're looking for?

    Kimiko WIP

    More WIP

Thought that I'd give more of an action scene with this one. Kimiko had just found out one of her enemies kidnapped one of the little member...they gotta pay!!!

I was thinking to make the BG like an alleyway with graffiti etc, any C & C is appreciated.

Man, this is one of the best CHOWs, all the entries are looking awesome!

    Hope to finish up soon...

A bit late in the game, but I'll try and enter as well

there's some amazing entries and wips already!
I will have another close look later and comment on them, just didn't want to be too intimidated and influenced by others before I got my idea down.

so here's the first wip of the sketch I'm going with.
Akecheta's feet look a bit awkward in position, I lifted him up a bit lateron... will try to fix that.
hit me with your thoughts and critique.

Fluorine - I'm loving it!! great entry on the girl/boys td too, incidently. my favorite!

Some seriously wonderful entries this round, I'm really psyched about so many ofthem!
update from me: working my way down, worked on the pants, I need more practice with fabric, but is it looking better? any pointers? O_o hm... next is the sneakers altho I still don't think that foot is right... oh well, after the sneakers, maybe another round of detailing and I'm calling this one done, unless someone points out something I really can't overlook of course.

Decided to jump aboard the CHOWmobile and try it out. I have some working designs for both Kimiko and Akecheta, but I think for my final piece I'm going to focus on just one of them.

I'm not sure which one I should do though, so I'm gonna ask for an honest answer: Which design is stronger? I'm really leaning towards Akecheta because guys are harder for me to draw so it'd be more of a challenge, but if you guys feel that Kimiko has a more workable design I'll do that for the final.

Cool topic and lots of good stuff so far~! I like your sketch, Indus

Here's my sketch for Kimiko. I put a tattoo texture on her to see how the idea in my head will look. Still more designing to do.

Holy wow, there are a lot of amazing entries. Votin's gonna be tough x.x

Working out colours and rendering. Probabyl gonna slap a few tattoos on him, his arms look too bare.

Also Mark, I love the textures on your pic, especially the fur!

did some tightening of the rendering, and corrected a few things with the poses. i'm feeling at this point, that the subtlety of my characters is a little weak compared to some of the other designs, oh well.

this'll probably end up being the final, that is, unless you guys see any glaring problem that i missed.
