    ROUND #173 :: 1930s-40s Costumed Hero/Villain
    DESCRIPTION

    1930s-40s Costumed Hero/Villain

    Thanks to Daestwen for this one.

    Design and invent a 1930s/40s superhero or villain, detective or adventurer. The 30s and 40s were the golden age for these costumed vigilantes. We got Batman, Superman, The Shadow, Captain Marvel, Wonder Woman, Torch, Doc Savage, The Phantom, The Spider, Captain-America etc.

    Male or female, its up to you. However we are going to stick to on-brief this time very closely, so keep the character in historical perspective as to period look, hair, weapons, materials etc. The line between Detective and Pulp comics and Superhero ones blurs at times, but Detective Comics gave us Batman, so ignore the genre specifics for this. Although backgrounds arent a problem please bear in mind that this time we want people to concentrate on design and character not environment, and we want to be able to see the entire character, so no ambiguity with three quarter views please. If your character has a mask, also include a version with the face visible. This need only be an insert.

    If youre looking for inspiration, the recent movie version of Watchmen had some great designs of early heroes.

    ------------

    ACCEPTANCE TO POLL WILL BE BASED ON THREE CRITERIA:
    1: DID THE ARTIST FOLLOW THE BRIEF? (allowance for creative takes will be made).
    2: IS THE PIECE ARTISTICALLY SOUND? (Is the illustration "finished?" - did the artist pay attention to anatomy, perspective, other fundamentals?).
    3: IS THIS ILLUSTRATION THE BEST ONE?

    --------------------

    SUBMITTING YOUR ENTRY:
    1: You must submit ONE full sized image.
    2: Make sure your name and CHOW # are EASILY READABLE on your entry.
    3: Use the Standard format (Below);

    Chow 173 :: VOTING :: 1930s-40s Costumed Hero/Villain
    PLACE THE IMAGE IN A FRAME WITH YOUR NAME/TOPIC
    SAVE YOUR FILE IN THE FOLLOWING FORMAT:

    Chow##_Nickname
    example: "CHOW#100_Oregano.jpg"

    THE REST IS EASY:
    1: No comments before poll is set. They WILL be deleted with utmost malice and petty grumbling.
    2: Sit back and enjoy the show. BYOPC (Bring your own popcorn)
    3: Good luck to all.

    Please review these helpful reminders if you have not done so already.

    ON GETTING TO POLL
    -------------------------
    NEW ROUND RULE: WIPS PLEASE!
    -------------------------
    SUBMISSION FORMAT REMINDER

    PLEASE REMEMBER TO WRITE YOUR COPYRIGHT INFORMATION UNDER THE IMAGE IN THE FINAL BURNING THREAD SO I DON'T HAVE TO HUNT YOU DOWN LATER!

    ---

    Quick Check: Have You Submitted Your Chow Properly?

    - is it named correctly? (ie, "CHOW#100_Oregano.jpg")
    - has it been uploaded using the attachment editor?
    - have you also uploaded or linked to your wips?
    - have you followed the brief?

    Good luck!

    The Peacock
    The man now simply known as Peacock was once a common citizen, working at the local zoo.
    He always had a passion for birds - peacocks in particular. But when his beloved girlfriend died in a tragical accident,
    the trauma of having lost her drove him insane. Now he roams quiet pathways,
    killing young loving couples to 'save them from the inevitable heartache'...

    The word anarchy comes from the ancient Greek αναρχία in which αν meant without and αρχία meant first a military leader and then ruler. Anarchist society is one without rulers: a classless, non-hierarchical society.

    I present you Purity! Her faith is her only power. As long as she believes doing the right thing, she can overcome any evil with what she believes to be Holy powers from God himself. Whether this is true or there is someone other behind, Purity knows what she must do. Beware unholy villains!

    Behold, The Sorrow!

    Using a combination of deadly bullying skills, a mere demoralizing aura and a contagous miserable appearance, this masked avenger can obliterate every ounce of joy left in the souls of his enemies. He can never feel joy...
    His alliance remains a mystery.

    My approach was to keep it simple and plausible for the Golden Age.

    I wish i had more time! I usually can't decide how much effort should I dedicate to the design, and how much to the finishing or wow factor. Is CHOW aimed exclusively at the design, or should i take both aspects into consideration?
