Hey thanks for stopping by my sketchbook! I like what you have going on in here. Real solid and nice professional presentation. I would pay more attention to lighting maybe- but that develops over a long time. Keep at it!
Good start keep'm coming..

New piece entitled 'Tiny Dancer'
Originally intended to be a quick 10 minute birthday card for a friend. The 10 minutes turned into half a day of listening to Elton John and painting this:

"Hold me closer tiny dancer"
Is the ligh tsource from "the headlights on the highway?"
I wonder who layed the book "down in sheets of linen"
Looks like "you had a busy day today"
That last one is cool as hell.
Unfortunately, I don't have anything more to say. But, the fact that I'm here means that it's interesting stuff. Many cheers and keep at it.
Two listen - cool, thanks man
Wilkerson - thanks, n that's right, I do have more to post...
- Day to night colour study. I need to get better at lighting.
- Alien quadtych. Just a few quick sketches. Think I gotta go see District 9...sounds intriguing
Nice work Callbee! hehehe
You know, I was just speaking to Paul about how to improve my lighting and he gave me an exercise to do. For 2 months, do loads of studies from life and photographs. Quick 15 minute ones he said and he promised that this will improve you!
Here's a fairly strange array of images: a few concepts and a study of Winslow Homer's painting 'Apple Picking' 1878
Nice art here. I really like 'The Gaslight Cafe', the poster for your film and Tiny Dancer. Do you've any drawings to share? Keep it up!
Check out my sketchbook if you've time. Would be nice with some critic or something.
Three pieces under the theme of Celtic warrior:
hey great work! I really like your painting. The ambiance of the Sub Human poster looks really nice.
I also like your thumbnails. I'll be looking forward to more of your stuff.
Hey Callum!! nice to see you conform and join up...
Some really nice work here, like really really nice, stuff i havent seen you do before. That little paper man is rendered very well indeed!.
Ahh first week of directing is going well, im directing all over the place, haha im sat in the same place we were for Sub Human, ive taken your chair.
When i have a more pleasing animatic done i will send it to you, would appriciate some feedback, dont trust the tutors...cheers MAte!
hey. to answer your question the most important part of anatomy studies is just doing them. I'm no master but I can suggest finding a book like Bridgmans and copy the drawings, its more important that you understand the mechanics than can reproduce the rendering. Theres lots of resources here on CA so get to it!
Nice one Calster! You are the master of that rain effect
Liking the celtic warrior pieces. And the expression of the figures in the first one. Very dramatic pose! I think in the first one, the stabbing figure would work better on the right side, all the interests is on the left side at the moment with the dead guy's face there and the spear.
Hey Dragon, thanks for the comment. You're right, everything is compressed into that left hand side. I did attempt placing the spear just about everywhere but settled with trying to balance the image with the silhouetted arm on the right in the end. Thinking about it, that rain in the other pic would have been better coming in from the left...man i love rain...
Maximunki - Thanks! I look forward to seeing the day-to-night study...now the pressure's on..
Man-tiny dancer looks fantastic! Great job! Keep at those lighting and color studies. I usually steal colors from a photo reference and make a palette out of them. That way you can have more coherence and harmony in the piece. Keep at it man!
Hey Callumbo really nice start. I especially like the perspective in the Gas Light one. You have created some really good feelings with your light treatments in others. I can see your imagination is firing on all cylinders and I like the way you tell us the story your visualising. Looking forward to seeing more.
Thanks Sirkenneth and Marian.
Here's some more shtuff...
OOOooooo man! The first two are super sexy! Youve been improving in secret lol!
The cars have very accurate perspectives and atmosphere, nice to see the subtle shades of different colours dotted around! Im pretty impressed! In fact... Im gonna save that second one!
Artist Studies - Two Anders Zorn Paintings
1st is a Jaime Jones study, I realised afterwards that it was after Anders Zorn. So I looked Anders up n thought, yeah, this guy is goooooood...
Very nice studies of studies Calster! I think you could add more harder edges in there, you are right to try balance the sharp with the looser brushwork but I think the contrast should be more apparent so that when its in sharp focus it really is defined and then the less important stuff is hazy but probably still feels more solid.
Bendragon - good point, it's often the best part as well. finishing the painting off with some sharps. I'll try harder next time.
JasonHickey - No problemo. Thanks for the compliment. Get cracking with those Monet studies...maybe you've done them already, i'll go check as soon as i've posted this nonsense.
Here's my latest piece...SCI-FI! oooooooooo. Wanted to get a female character in there, so why not a sexy futuristic police officer!? The guy in the foreground is suppose to be a criminal. I think I could improve on the design of things but hey, it's the first futuristic concept I've done. blah blah blah....
