First off I want to say that your environments are looking great man! Definitely keep up with those, I seriously wish I could do environments like yours. I love the landscape with the hot air balloon on the first page.

The human face is just really tough to get right in general, comes with a lot of practice and definitely doesn't happen overnight. I'm still trying to get the hang of them myself lol.

I would suggest spending a bit more time defining the planes of the face with your values, in your most recent face there's not a big difference in the lights/darks so it looks a little flat. Harder edges will also help carve out the planes a little better. Soft edges can work for hair, but the ears and neck could be more clearly defined.

Another thing is the eyes look kind of like stickers pasted on top of the face. Look closely at your or (anyone else's) face, and you can see that the upper eyelid creates a deep crease between the eyebrow and the eyeball. Or it might be the fact that it's mostly a bright solid white; remember that the brow/eyelid usually block some of the light reaching the eyeball. It's missing values to describe the roundness of the eye. Also really try to get the symmetry right, it's fairly noticeable when features don't line up. Use rulers or whatever guidelines if you've got to.

It might be helpful to practice isolated features instead of trying to tackle the whole face at this point. Maybe spend a few days just understanding how different eyes look, then noses, then the mouth, etc. Then once you know the proportions/planes of the head you can place those features in perspective and know how to refine them correctly. Andrew Loomis' Drawing the Head and Hands has helped me a lot, might be worth a look. Mostly I would just say draw faces of a lot of different people from life to understand the countless variations that are out there.

Sorry. Longwinded I know, hope it was helpful though. Keep at it!

Thanks for crits Noun, it was all helpful and things I have been slowly working on. I have always struggled with the proportions of the head - the other day I saw some pics of the head broken down into planes with broad shapes and all that good stuff, but I cant find it anymore. I wish I could get a real head cast sculpture for drawing

I have done individual components before, and they always turned out a bit better, I think they key for me and the part I as of yet don't understand, is the underlying anatomy that makers up the face, especially in the lips and eyes. Ears I just haven't even tried yet, they look too hard for me for now xD

I have been doing self portraits daily to practice!

Here is a sketch I did, I plan to work on it more when I'm done with freelance environments for the day. I put in the mirror so everybody can really see proportions easily, crits are welcome
