Agreed on the saturation comment by Thomas... especially in the background... as you go further away (into a deep background), colors become duller, more de-saturated... and shift more toward a neutral gray. That's aerial perspective for you in a nutshell.

Also... not sure what muscles the creature would need to open that gaping chest mouth It could be that the creature was a quick-mutation type, though.... nothing that evolved in a Darwinian way.

Good work. Still, nothing beats Nicky because Nicky Beats all!

Great imaginitive work, definitely alot of different stuff in you SB. Makes mine shameful lol. I like that you are daring with going strong with colors, instead of not doing enough saturation, more is always better than less in my opinion. You have a great sense of portraying stuff, and it shows in how you do poses and in your still life's (or whatever they are called)

You should think about using saturation abit more lightheartedly. browsed a few of your
pages and its very colorful. Which is good often time, but not when you want to present something and the colors obstruct the detailing. I would try doing a variation on both the saturation-if you use layer modes maybe depend on them less. at the same time pick more color from the color sliders to add variation instead of oversaturating them.
Add abit of more careful strokes when detailing /accentuating and you are golden.

photo study from this morning. fairly quick... about an hour... i still find myself struggling to see edges properly. hard and soft alike, blending one into the other to create sharp contrasting areas to pull the eyes in. i still have a long way to go, but this was the focus for this particular study.

Heya there! I know what you mean about the edges thing, something I am trying to understand better too. I think your last couple of photo studies look great. Are you spending under an hour on these? I find that similar things for me are taking way longer, but I have some hardcore OCD sometimes...Keep things going!

I love, love, love, love the fire weilding lady. The contrast and colours are just right and it makes me all warm looking at it

What amazes me is how quick you knock 'em out.

    Hey Nicky
I think I've asked you before, but have you ever given Painter a whirl, or traditional oils?
I'm asking because if your fighting edges that program will let you blend a little more naturally, even though you can get those qualities in PS too.
I try to work Painter the way I'd handle traditional oils(water based, to be specific), and I like the results. I love photoshop too, but for me it's pretty much an additive program, meaning I'm layering colour rather than blending, even with the new mixer brushes. Guess it boils down to taste, but just some food for thought.
You seem to prefer an opaque approach to paint, so you might get a kick out of some of Painter's oil brushes, Smeary round, Paletter knives...
BTW, love the colours in post 2234!

Pete Hidalgo - thanks man! its funny getting lots of positive feedback on that one, it was a really quick study... gotta do more of those.

Erikly - thanks!! hells yea! i looove x men, and most comics actually! thanks man!

SpaceJelly - thank you!! been slowing down now that school has started up again tho :/

Mike L - thanks for dropping by Mike!! always a pleasure! in fact i exclusively use painter, but i still have a hard time trying to create something while experimenting with brushes. i was using the oil brushes today for a while, but just could not get it. there is some desat and blending going on, but im still not sure how its controlled, by velocity or pressure... im gonna have to open up the brush creator to get a look under the hood for those. thanks for coming by though, and the advice !

DennisH-Art - thanks! unfortunately no, school just started up again and im still getting setled in here.

    ------------------

    HEY CA!!!!

sorry ive been MIA, i just got back to school, and i havent painted or drawn a friggin thing in almost a week, just trying to get settled and shit. but i managed to scribbl this thing out in like 5 minutes after a few energy drinks haha, hence the sloppy feel ! enjoi!!!

Im sure you've heard this before mate but on the off chance you havent, have you tried slightly harder edges? Especially on sharper/inorganic surfaces, I think you could really benefit from defining solid shapes... oh and hi XD sorry im all over the place, havent talked to yah in months and the first thing I do is bash your stuff sorry mate.
but seriously, nice progress man, i love the diversity in color you've been trying lately
