Hey duder! Long time since i've dropped a comment in here, but worry not, i've been dropping by pretty often in my hiatus from CA :B . Can't believe you're already to page 73, way to make me look like a lazy anus! All of your collabs and studies over the previous pages have been slick, especially your new environment renders. Great sequential work with the batman pages, the exploding/unwrapping scarecrow head is my favorite panel.
On that note, the storyboard above for the teen challenge, be careful with your repetitive camera angels. The first 4 panels of back and forth dialogue completely lose their impact because of the stationary shot. Go from person to person depending on who's dialogue is being spoke, also close ups would be great when the general gets angry. The last 4 panels have decent variety to them but everything being so centrally organized and symmetrical gets a bit bland after a while. Just remember to mix it up, the camera doesnt always have to be a locked down object.
Thats my main critique for now. Glad to see you're updating so often , you're definitely on a roll! I'll try and be a bit more regular around here. Keep up the great work dude!
Some of those focus fury sketches are intense man.
Loving the panels man, that layered teethy dude in the batman one is awesome.
The team challange panel is looking great as well, Its going to be sweet to see where you guys go with it!
Your work from imagination is seriously awesome man, keep at it!
I feel so speechless how good you've got to become Nicky. Keep that up !
Crazy stuff man. Love the janemba piece. Your rendering is awesome and so is the line works. Keep them coming man
sense of purpose
73 pages, holy crap! It's been a while since I landed on CA & this is the 1st thread I've looked at today, so i'm kinda impressed and intimidated at the same time. I love the comic panels and the way you sketch digitally as your lines have bags of character. Also love your sense of humour it raised a smile after a crummy day at work.
By the way I reckognise the user name, are you on IFX too? If so, hiya and keep it up with the updates as it's pretty inspiring stuff. Now I need to go away and get my butt in gear.
BlackDelphin - haha thanks dude! im a creepy guy... thats why i draw creepy things ... haha...... ha..... he. hehe..........
AustenFM - hey man! thanks for stopping in and for the awesome comment! all sage advice my friend!! thanks!!! -i did intentionally force the boring stationary camera for the first page, i didnt want to show the girls face, and i am trying to also get better at consistency in my characters. but, it does read very statically. i feel like sometimes i try to out do every previous panel in its dynamism, and sometimes it just comes off badly.. and fucks up the story pacing... but ill try to find a decent balance for the next set!
Pete Hidalgo - ha thanks man!!
Christoffer - yea man, i cant speak for the rest of my team, but im having a friggin ball!! this is hella fun!!
Edward B - hey man! thanks for the kind words!
jNeumann - thank you!! i appreciate it!!
Vumi - heeeey Vumi!! been a while!! haha, thanks for checking out the new stuff!
sin eater - thanks a bunch man!! i willl!!
SpaceJelly - haha thanks!! yea, i guess time flies when your having fun! or in an art coma for years ... haha... and yea im over at IFX too!! if you think my sketchbook here has a lot of pages, the one i have going since 2009 on the imaginefx sketchbook forum has like 120 pages i think..
some anatomy studies, and color pencil fun! on pastel paper...
I was going to say but it looks like Austen beat me to it regarding camera angles - they can start to look unnatural after a while. Anyway, I really need to get involved in some challenges in this community, so if you're ever up for a collab I'll be around!
I love the anatomy stuff NickyBeats also the dude with the 'stache looks great. I'm not sure about the lady in the red's boobs though. The one on the left looks a little too round. Boobs are something I find tricky to get right, especially if you don't want to paint a set that look plastic fantastic.
I have that Michael Hampton book too. It was the best Xmas present ever and I've found it to be a very useful and interesting read. My art has come along in leaps and bounds since using it. It rarely leaves my side when drawing. Your studies from it look really solid. Like the use of red too.
Your 2009 sketch book sounds pretty scary, not sure if I dare venture there
YA ROOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOC KKKKKKKKKKKKKK!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Wow, the studies are looking great. I definitely recognize the Michael Hampton ones. For nitpicking, the gym studies are looking a bit too bubble-like, I think just adding a few more hard edges would strengthen the forms a lot. Even bodybuilders' muscles have more angular shapes in a few key places.
Nice torso studies man, keep doing those!
ThomasM - oh hell yea!! im always up for a collab!! send me a pm! although it may have to wait for a few, at least until i get some more work done for this team challenge thing. i gotta start pulling my weight. thanks for stopping in man!
SpaceJelly - haha, nah its not as scary as it sounds . but i actually think you might get a kick out of it, because i stopped by your sketchbook (which rocks by the way ) and i realised that a lot of your sketches kind of reminded me of the stuff i would draw back in the good ol days! just free flowing imagination, and you got plenty of it too! but my old stuff is crap haha, just the themes reminded me.. thanks for stopping by! oh yea, and if you are having trouble with drawing breasts (lord knows i do) this blog really helped me to understand things better for that sort of thing : http://babelab.blogspot.com/?zx=9a9b2972ced88ca9 ... its not 100% safe for work. but, its 99% drawings. but yea, great site!
Aaron_ - busted. haha yea i posted this because i wanted to just move on, i wasnt really in the mood to bring themup to the level of finish that i probably should have, but oh well. time to keep it moving! (team challenge takes precedent haha)
jNeumann - thanks man!! oh yea, im gonna be doing lots of studies from this book in the near future!
here is a design for the team challenge! one of thepotential enemies. stay tuned for colors!
Thx for dropping by my man! I'm still around, just pretty busy with work, and now I've got some time to post!
Now, on to the important stuff...your work!
The art is getting tighter, in a good way! That last greyscale post is well done, if I can offer any advice it may be to pull back just a hint with a few highlights...save 'em for the areas where you'd really like to take the viewers' eye, which you've pretty much done with the arms and legs, allowing them to recede into the background for some depth in such a tight composition. This is all stuff you probably know so forgive me if I'm babbling
I'll be back soon!
You got some really awesome creations here. color's on those female studies up there look really good. Gotta delve into your sketch book some more soon.
You guys are going to town with the Team Challenge!
Just something to consider, when studying also take note of the negative shape around the object you are portraying, might help with more solid construction.
This SB is going places, keep it up man.
Aw shucks, I'm hoping to amass a collection of work as impressive as this. Seeing sketchbooks like this really spurrs me on. It's good to see other artists grow.
The team challenge entry is looking bad ass. Very imposing. What colours are you planing on doing?
Wow Nicky, your basics for form-shaping are out of the world. You've progressed so far ahead! Great job! And yes, it's been a while bcos of my ICT studies on University of Technology in Wrocław - hard stuff to do haha but enjoyin' it
You're killin' it man! Love the war room panels. Do more
Diggin' the anatomy studies too. Hampton rocks.
"You might be disappointed if you fail, but you will be doomed if you don't try"
kevin_ - ah yea, your right! damn! gotta pay closer attention! thanks man!
Mike L - hey Mike! thanks for dropping by man! always appreciate feedback on my work, so thank you! i tried to take your advice and apply it to this piece im posting now! thanks!!
Jonesoda - thanks man!!
Rotor - hey Rotor, thanks man!! hmm negative space, i never really pay much attention to this when blocking in, but i will take it into consideration for my next study! thanks!!
SpaceJelly - green and blue. i think. at least i started blocking in with those colors so far! well see how far i take it though! thanks again!!
Vumi - hey Vumi! thanks for stopping by man!! and thanks for the very kind comment! good luck with your university studies!! im sure youll handle it!
ismo - heeey buddy! been a while! good to see you stop by! and indeed, michael hampton is a genius!! thanks for coming through!
just a fairly quick robot sketch for the team challenge... actually its a piloted mech suit, not robot..
Ahh interesting colors and expression... nice...
I agree, that last one, its a definite level up. Mysterious! Good work sir.
