another small update on this cyborg warfare image, and also an Avatar marker sketch. (i used referance for the lower one).

also, i dont know why, but my scanner kept scanning this in at this weird angle. i tried a couple different times, but oh well its only a sketch.

I think your tank piece still needs more contrast to make it pop. The Avatar sketches are sweeet

Palladium - thanks man! yea that tank one still has ways to go, but before i add more i probably should try and bump the contrast up a bit.

    ------------------------------------

i got the alien movie collection for christmas, and just watched the first movie. i havent seen it in sooooo long, but its still just as good as i remember it being. i felt the sudden urge to draw some alien stuff, so i did this sketch up. using markers again, most of them are starting to dry out which sucks balls because i love using them to sketch.

floydshayvious - thanks man! Xenomorph..haha, if i hadnt just watched that movie, i would not have gotten that one!

    -----------------------------------

some overly intricate pen sketches. i got a bit carried away with details. also, i wanted to put some marker values in this one, but alas, my god damn markers are all dried up pretty much. i just got more grey tones for christmas, and theyre already dry. jeeeezus. these things are too friggin expensive.

Excellent updates Mr. Beats! Your marker work is really really nice, try pushing your shadows more though. Also, for the drying markers, try dipping the tip quickly in rubbing alcohol and it should get the juices flowing again long enough to finish a drawing. I hope this helps you out, its not a permanent fix, but it'll extend their life until you can get more, that's for sure!

Oh!, have you ever read any of Andrew Loomis' books on head/facial construction? "Fun With A Pencil" or "Drawing the Head and Hands" I think you would enjoy it!

Keep up the good work! I'll be back for more!

floydshayvious - thanks!! more to come soon!

AustenFM - hey man, thanks!! im definately gonna have to try that tip with the rubbing alchohol, ill be psyched if it works! and your right about the values too, im trying to see them better everyday. i find myself just staring at certain things for waaay too long in public, like just staring down the main stretch of tile floor in the mall, people stare back at me, its funny hehe. but im trying to focus more on the more subtle effects of atmospheric distortion, as well as the slighter reflected lights within shadows, and stuff like this. hopefully it will begin to show.

    ---------------------------------

Feng Zhu is like one of my favorite artists ever. hes insane. and he finally updated his damn website after like years of the same stuff, i just went on it and BAM!!! tons of new stuff to look at! i love that, it just made me wanna draw some enviroment comps. im not so hot with these yet, plus these were done in bic pen, soooo yea...no erasing perspective lines.

Wow, I really love these! The characters really jump out at you I love the sketch where the right part of a guys face is sewn on upsidedown. Really, really awesome

Cameli - thanks man! yea i probably should make some more pages to accompany that one.

Roia - thanks alot!! i try to come up with interesting characters, most of the time they are just generic and exactly the same as one that inspired me... but i think im getting better at that. the sketch your refering to is something i love to do, just doodle away not thinking of specifics, just let my hand control my brain really. thanks for the comment!

    -------------------------------

i did some more anatomy studies. only in pen, which im used to, but Giovanni Civardi's studies are so freakin detailed, this one was a struggle. it was fun though.

speed painting of Drake, from the video game series Uncharted. the games are awesome to play, its like playing a game and a movie at the same time. great dialogue too, haha. everytime i was about to say "ohhh SHIT!!!" the character would yell it out too! soooo funny.

anyways, this is like a weak attempt at a character concept of him. i didnt use referance, so he looks like a retarded out of proportion cartoon. oh well, better luck next time...

Havnt seen Avatar yet but from all the buzz I'm sure it's amazing.

Really find it interesting, and tragic considering the state of the world, that a variety of people are reporting intense depression after viewing the film because of their longing to experience such a place as Pandora. Life shoulnt be this hectic anyways, and I think we all know that deep down. Amusing times we live in.

Loving the blue sketches as well as the beasty - keep it up Nicky, great art!

Floyd - hahaha...o my god. i just heard that too! yikes. some people just cant handle jimmy cameron. haha. i didnt get depressed, unless you count me not being able to contribute to that movie. i would kill to be able to help design a movie like that one day. if anything it just made me want to work harder towards it though, so no depression just inspiration.
thanks man, i appreciate the reply!
