The best thing you can do right now is just keep drawing, constantly; always be looking around you.

Good work Sixx-- I mean, Beats! (who will get this reference)

    update: street fighter speedy

Drd - yea, ive been trying to draw from observation alot more lately. but i cant help but excercise my imagination too. ill try to focus on observational stuff, but i cant promise that my a.d.d. riddled mind wont escape to greener pastures. (or in my case, pastures filled with anatomically challenged figures, and disturbing imagery.)

also, sorry but i dont get the sixx thing.

    Bharat - thanks man!!

    -------------------------------------------------

i just got a SWEEEEEEET book. its the street fighter tribute book, and it ROCKS!!! soooo much inspiration in one book. filled with different styles, and its just awesome. so anyways, i was suddenly filled with inspiration and had to get it out, so i made this speed paint thing. its supposed to be Ryu right before he fights (and scars) Sagat. as always, thanks for looking!

Gorgeous colors on this one. The clean/direct application of the colors is excellent. It seems a little bit flat though, especially where the green-city-relief is.

Your digi-illustrations are really improving! Before they seemed kind of 2-dimensional, but they're rounding off and gaining mass now. It might help to up the levels a bit, or desaturate the image to see the values. You can definitely still push the contrast in the Sagat/Ryu piece.

Also, maybe experimenting with line weight. I don't know much about it, but if you varied your lines more--thicker lines in darker areas for example--it would make the piece more interesting.

WhiteC - thanks man, same to you!

YihyoungLi - thanks Yi! i will make a point to do some value studies. i really need to, and i think it will help me out alot too. i know what you mean about them looking flat. i always thought it was because of the colors i was choosing, and wasnt paying enough attention to the values.

also, that last street fighter sketch wasnt something that i was in love with when i was doing it, but i just bought that street fighter tribute book, and was overcome with inspiration. also the lines are all pretty much the same weight on purpose for this one, i wanted to give it a more anime-ish look to it, and i should have just cell shaded it, but i started just slapping paint on it.

    -----------------------------

merry christmas everyone!!! heres a random pencil doodle i did tonight.

    Hello

    Awesome beer mug painting .
Checking out and trying out different styles is great.
Some of your works turn out really cool, and some are a bit less.. solid. Probably because of all the experimenting, which is cool

During your experimentations keep your attention on the proportions. To rebel against proportions by using an exaggerated style you have to know the " classic" very very well first .

    Also nice grafitti-design work

Will appreciate critique anywhere, anytime .

    Akuma- colored with markers

worked on this thing for sooo long tonight. prismacolor markers, built up from light - dark. lots of colors mixed into eachother, but i think i kept it from getting too busy looking. i subdued alot of the brighter colors like carmine red, and peach by doing some less opaque washes over them. (like a light blue or green). this helps to blend the colors together. if there are two colors that im using that just dont want to blend together, i will usually take a more transparent neutral color, and blend the crap out of the two colors with it, to give it a more rounded off edge. (unless you want a hard border with the color.) markers can be great for coloring, but you sort of have to plan out your image colors before hand, try to envision it in clear detail in your head, then just plot out your colors from lightest to darkest. it can be easier to use some really transparent cool or warm grey markers to just define the light and shadow first. i sometimes do that, for instance in this one, i just used three cool grey tone markers to define the lights and shadows. (10%, 20%, and 30%) this way, it takes off some of the pressure of focusing on the values, and you can just experiment with color more.

also, for those of you who are thinking about using markers, a word of advice: only use the fat chisel tip to color in, its the ONLY way to blend markers together. and it makes it alot easier to blend markers if you have already made a first wash or pass with a transparent marker. (the paper will seem alot smoother and will be less likely to blotch up or get spotty.) hope this helps anyone who cares about it. as always, thanks for looking!!!

    -Nick

Thx for stopping by my sketchbook. Really like what's going on in here
Wouldn't mind seeing some more Dark Tower sketches, especially if you draw them in your style. If you haven't read the books, I advise you to do so. They are awesome, and sometimes reading is just the thing the artists imagination needs to get inspired to do some incredible art. Really cool works, and can't wait for more.

Palladium - those dark tower sketches were actually from the dark tower comic books, which were penciled by Jae Lee, hes just so sick that i had to draw some panels of it. i guess its like a comic 'study'. thanks though dude, i do need to read those books too (the actual books), my brother is obsessed with them.

Nakedzergling - hell yea man!! i love that! i think its fuckin rad when other artists get inspired by your art. makes me feel good. color anything you want man!!!, (so long as you give me some credit of course).

oh yea, and im from boston dude, forgot to say it last time.

You should check out Ryan Ottley. He does the "Invincible" comic. I think you would dig his inks. Your stuff really reminds me of his work.
