    ROUND #172 :: NPC Design
    DESCRIPTION
    TWO WEEK CHOW

    NPC Design

NPC - Non-Player Character. The "others" in video games, which the player can't control and are used as background or minor characters for the player character to interact with.

This week's contest is simple. You need to design a minimum of three NPCs. Genre is up to you, style is up to you, race, creed, what-have-you.

The only stipulation is that they should be able to be built off the same base, as if they were going to built off the same model. (If you want to do male and female NPCs, please do at least 2 of each.) 3 minimum, after that you can do as many as you wish. They should all fit into the same world, but what that world is would be up to you.

    Turnarounds are not necessary.

    ------------

ACCEPTANCE TO POLL WILL BE BASED ON THREE CRITERIA:
1: DID THE ARTIST FOLLOW THE BRIEF? (allowance for creative takes will be made).
2: IS THE PIECE ARTISTICALLY SOUND? (Is the illustration "finished?" - did the artist pay attention to anatomy, perspective, other fundamentals?).
3: IS THIS ILLUSTRATION THE BEST ONE?

    --------------------

    SUBMITTING YOUR ENTRY:
1: You must submit ONE full sized image.
2: Make sure your name and CHOW # are EASILY READABLE on your entry.
    3: Use the Standard format (Below);

    Chow 172 :: VOTING :: NPC Design
PLACE THE IMAGE IN A FRAME WITH YOUR NAME/TOPIC
SAVE YOUR FILE IN THE FOLLOWING FORMAT:

    Chow##_Nickname
    example: "CHOW#100_Oregano.jpg"

    THE REST IS EASY:
1: No comments before poll is set. They WILL be deleted with utmost malice and petty grumbling.
2: Sit back and enjoy the show. BYOPC (Bring your own popcorn)
    3: Good luck to all.

Please review these helpful reminders if you have not done so already.

    ON GETTING TO POLL
    -------------------------
    NEW ROUND RULE: WIPS PLEASE!
    -------------------------
    SUBMISSION FORMAT REMINDER

PLEASE REMEMBER TO WRITE YOUR COPYRIGHT INFORMATION UNDER THE IMAGE IN THE FINAL BURNING THREAD SO I DON'T HAVE TO HUNT YOU DOWN LATER!

    ---

Quick Check: Have You Submitted Your Chow Properly?

    - is it named correctly? (ie, "CHOW#100_Oregano.jpg")
    - has it been uploaded using the attachment editor?
    - have you also uploaded or linked to your wips?
    - have you followed the brief?

    Good luck!

The word ‘anarchy’ comes from the ancient Greek αναρχία in which αν meant ‘without’ and αρχία meant first a military ‘leader’ and then ‘ruler’. Anarchist society is one ‘without rulers’: a classless, non-hierarchical society.

Jharré, a minor and younger goddess of the Arralonidian pantheon, in three of her incarnations: The tricky warrior, the thief, and the wise, circled by the Lenoovian Globes (called upon to solve riddles and such). She is goddess of wit, the patron of tricksters, pranksters and daredevils.
I'd like to thank for the help and tips on improvement, it's been great fun. Good luck everyone!

    Okay, im callin it!

Was trying to go bold this time, use some gritty brushes and not try to keep things clean. I wanted them to look dirty, dangerous and crazy. There's nothing this posse of carnival freaks wouldnt do.

Maybe not up to par with some of the awesome stuff this round but I'm glad I finished.

In my head, these would be part of a cartoony game (I like cartoony games), and they would be the kind of characters that don't give a damn if you kill the bad guy or the bad guy kills you... they will just maybe take a look, and go on with their own busy lifes...

    Hey Everyone!
This is my take on the NPC Challenge : Blood Mage, Zombie Witch, Water Nymph.

The only character I had really planned out before painting was the Blood Mage. The sketches for the other two are a bit different than the final outcome, as both the zombie witch and the water nymph sort of developed as I went along.

    Final Chow

Here's what I came up with. They are Cyborg Space Gnomes. Each with his own little specialty. Mechanic, Weapons, Inventor / Engineer. I had a lot of fun working on these but must say I'm a little tired now. It might be time for some watercolors.

My set is a sci-fi spaceport filled with an eclectic urban population.

The base model is a slim man, but the garments and postures should alter the looks a lot.

I used some fencing photographs for inspiration.

I like the sketchy lines. I supposed they are adecuate for concept design, aren't they? As usual, I'm looking forward to your comments after the submission closes. Thanks!

Here's my characters~ as you can see, I haven't finished the Imperial Quarters male NPCs. I'll try my best to finish them tomorrow, but if I can't... This will be my final... Hopefully it won't get me disqualified.

    Description:

Xinjing, meaning the New Capital, is the political center of the Imperial China. After the old capital city become inhabitable due to endless sand storms, the government decided to build a new capital city south of Beijing.

The new city took years to finish, the construction workers moved from all over the country to build the New Capital.

They form the Old Town. It contains mostly the construction workers and mechanics who build and maintain the city.

The Imperial Quarters contains the imperial palace, the government departments, and the financial district.

The concepts revolve around a game where larger creatures interact with medieval human culture in a much more integrated way than is normally seen.

    Alien EVOLUTION!

Hello CA and greeting to the participants!

Thank you for the great competition and you've really pushed my skills very hard! There are really strong entries! It was fun! Thank you!

I've tried to give the most of you a very high-level critiques and I think that there is no place to get angry for that! The main goal for this kind of comptetitions is that we must push our skills to the best but often we really do not do that because of one factor - the deadline! So it is obligatory for the competitions they must have deadlines. There are really strong designs and there are some that have their weak sides - everyone has! So the right crit in the right time is twice as much help. We must not fear of our mistakes we must fear when we do them for a second time after the first one haha! This time (maybe because this CHOW was a personal one) the exciting moments were very few. But again I say that these competitions are very interesting!

Thank you for the attention everybody!
