Mike's doing work thread
Newest stuff last page:
I figure I might as well start one of these myself now.
Just working my way back into doing art again after another one of my many year hiatus's. I used to draw quite a bit when I was younger, then really got very sporadic once I hit my adult years. Art became more of an old hobby than something I really enjoyed. This habit of drawing maybe a piece or two every couple years has really hindered any growth and now due to bad habits and my self sabotaging ways I've gone in reverse. Not many artists can say they have actually receded in there skills, but I have and in the past made me hate art even more-so.
So due to my lack of interest in art for so long and lack of desire to learn and become better, my skills (or lack there-of) has not really improved. Knowing that I should be far better than I am now is quite frustrating since I spent so many years not doing any art at all.
So what you see here is pretty much my attempt to really put an effort into improving and actually broaden my skills for the first time in never. I'm just learning how to color and could use all the C&C to aid me in my path.
**Couple items I worked on recently.

First time actually using a picture reference. I was off quite a bit as per the original, but I saw a bunch of issues I was having and hope to rectify soon.
Definitely need to work on color picking, still not sure how to work with colors properly. I keep going at it blind-eyed due to my inexperience with colors.

Practice with style/technique/character.
Little darker than my usual stuff, not sure how much I like it yet. I'm not sure how done I am with the black n white portion of it yet. I think I might give it a day or two to ponder if I want to mess more with it before coloring.
Couple versions and close up detail:

ValveThanks for checking out my page. Glad you liked the first piece it's funny as that is one of the very first women I've ever created.
Yea, you are probably right about the close-up. I was guessing some might like to check it out, but looking at it now, probably not really needed.
Holland Thanks for the comment! Yea, I have quite a few areas I need to work on, flat pictures being one of them =)

Random face for practice. Not great, but I learned a few things on this one that I plan to utilize in the future.

Some test colors of my previous B/W guy.

Paint doodle. Little different method than I normally use.

Doodle sketch. Was mainly just testing out some new settings I did on my brush and wacom pad.
So I just kind of kept doodling it a bit, no real thinking or anything and there are quite a few issues. But I wasn't really doing much other than practicing blending a bit.
I do think the changes I made are looking nice so far. I think I had my sensitivity settings too low and my adjustment made my strokes much smoother.

Little irritated. I lost all my artwork on my computer the other day =/ Was reformating my PC and had all my artworks, PSDs and JPEGS all saved on a couple DVD-Rs. not sure what happened but I can't access teh content now, not sure if I have a bad burner or what. No clue what to do to get it all back.
Messing around tonight, not sure if I want to go with a helmet on this guy or go sans and keep angry face, lol.
Will be adding a sword and maybe something magical on his other hand, dunno yet.
Will be colored tomorrow, tired now =/

I love your style, it's really... badass, in lack of a better word to describe it.
I'd love to see you use more dramatic shading and light though, from what I can see you tend to use just darker tones of the base colours or black to shade... Maybe try using different colours. c: Maybe.
The last painting in your newest update is a lot more interesting than your previous works in that regard, I think.
