    Graecyn's Sketchie

    Yay! I haz a sketchie.

Quick bit about me... I'm 26 and I am a total digital painting and drawing noob. But over the course of the last year, I have developed an incredibly strong urge to learn to paint and draw. I have finally decided to act on that urge. I have a several years experience doing photo manipulations, but that doesn't really give me the same satisfaction as creating something purely from scratch does, I've found.

And so, with that... my sketchie, my participation, my hopes, my dreams, you know... my all (I hope) will go into this. Constructive criticism is very welcome! I am, after all, here to learn! Hee.

One of my recent photo manipulations (attached). I'll post some of my (very recent) paintings in the next thread. Yay!

    Painting Practice, Take 1

This was done for the Digital Painting in PS, Volume 2 thread. It was the first thread I'd discovered that really taught me technique, so I decided to take a shot and doing a pear.

Another one done for the previously referenced thread. I'll probably continue doing these for a while until I really get the gist of blending and color recognition down.

I think the real reason I'm unhappy with this one is that I didn't spend any time with the plate or walls. I probably would've been better off leaving the fruit on a flat surface. The progression photo of this particular painting is also attached so you can see where my troublespots are. >.<

Here's today's practice. In my opinion ... epic fail. Ugh.
Tomorrow I may try something easier.

This one is gonna need some serious critique.

A quick "sketch" of a Druid staff I hope to make in Autodesk Maya soon. Done purely from imagination, no reference. Feel free to tear the painting apart from a technical perspective.

Wow, great start Regarding your Staff, what i would suggest is to work the texture a little. Also the bended section looks a bit bizarre (mostly because of that small black line, as if it was a bended baloon)

Great work though, keep it up!

Awesome start! Your sketchbook is looking great so far! I'd like to see some studies of things other than fruit though ( maybe a veggie? lol )

your fruits are looking nice and realistic. great attention to detail, specially with the pores and reflections. i wouldn't mind seeing more definition to your edges though. compared to the body of the fruit, they look a tad undeveloped.

Yeah, my edges need work! Badly!!! hahahaha. I tried detailing the edges a bit more on this one... the berries are sort of... translucent? They were a tad harder for me to paint. I think I'll post some light and shading studies over the next few days as well.

    Hello,
those fruit studies looks yummy, you achieve a great realism. Maybe this last needs a little more work.

Hi all! WOW it's been a long time since I posted anything here! Here's a painting I did this morning - it's been a bit since I've painted anything really, but thought I'd give it a shot again today. I think I'm getting MUCH better at rendering light and shadow which is super encouraging. A far cry from where I was in 2009 at least!

Here is the original for reference's sake.
