hey man, pedobear is looking good, the values are good and im a fan of the vibrant color , some crits if you allow me , I think the lines on the clothing could have been a bit more curvy as they go to the right of the image to really suggest the form of his body. Also, the brown shapes in the glasses are a bit confusing, you should use refs to paint reflection or do some study of glass, 1 or 2 paintings and you would really be able to pull it better from imagination after.

I agree with kungfoowiz about the fur, I like to use the smudge tool to do that kind of stuff , you should try it out

kungfoo: Yeah I probably should have, I honestly didn't want to spend much time on it either but you're totally right.

virg: Yeah I was lazy with the stripes. They were supposed to be a quick way of adding texture, I don't know why I added it in there, it felt too daunting to remove it later since it was too late to go back haha. Also yeah I should have some ref up next time. I felt the same way when I was working on the glasses but for some reason I didn't want to start and pull up a bunch of ref while recording.. eeeh, I should have.

Man I haven't been doing much these last few days. Been kinda out of the circle for a while now I need to dive into it again. Procrastination has got to me again, need to power through.. Anyway, here's some embarrassing scans:

No matter how long I keep noodling on this damn master study I can't get it to look like the original. I'll give another shot tomorrow with the drawing and then I'm jumping into color cause I don't think I'm good enough to even pull it off.

Also some anatomy of upper torso from vilppu and two figures...................!11!

What is that last one? Is it the same study as you previously posted? I would say that "half-cyborg"-face thing is a cool idea :> but you shouldn't give up. (ok I know how hard it is, I gave up on 1000 paintings too, that is how I usually "finish" things)

You could try to use more hard brushes so that it does not take long to make a certain colour. You could also just experiment away with it, like doing crazy colour adjustments, making new layers with filters, random gradients etc XD

    I hope this helps a bit :V

I didn't want to use any adjustment layers, I wanted to get it as close to the original as possible by just picking colors. Insanely difficult, I can't cope with it, especially this one cause this piece is insane. I'll try another at some point next week (keeping a schedule).

    ---

Still life from today, more successful than the master study. Still not as good as I wanted it to be but whatever.

Going to take a break now and go and watch my cousin preform at some place and then I might do some anatomy/figure stuff.

    Ciao.

Yeah you didnt pick an easy subject with that girl painting, the edges and colors are really hard to distinguish. I think its a good idea for you to do still life like that latest one, train your eye to see color and value well, and learn to paint various edges. The main problem with the portrait of that girl is the value range, you went for too much contrast in her face making it look wrong. Grab the color picker with the HSB color slider and check the colors on your reference compared to your study, and try to understand where you didnt match the colors, sometime you will pick the right hue and saturation, but the wrong value, and it can ruin the illusion.

Hey Conny, Nice job on the still life, shame you didn't finish the master study, you started off so well. Have you tried using a softer brush and slowly working up the colour and form? It looks like you did that in the beginning and it was working really well.

Virg: Thanks man, yeah I should have done that. Got to keep it in mind the next time.
SteFlack: Thanks. Actually what i did was, I drew things with a normal brush and then I just blended the lines away and drew over them again until it looked correct and then I painted in some values. Ironic how I tell you to use less soft brushes and I get the reverse suggestion haha

    ----

    I'm going away again!
    What? Really?
Yeah I am. I'm also going to keep away from facebook, twitter, deviantart and other places completely. Why? Because it distracts me. I keep letting things bother me and it keeps me from achieving my goals.

Why is CA distracting? Because there's like a constant expectation of me posting things everyday, heaps and heaps of stuff. For some that pressure is good but it's negative pressure for me. I have enough pressure as it is, pressure that I need to deal with before I can be active anywhere again.

So, sorry for going away again (if anyone cares). I just have to do this in order to get my life and my art in order so I get anywhere in my life.

Hey, it's been a while. Sorry. It's just so bothersome to update here because the attachment system is so unnecessarily complex.. Here's something, though.

There's more but most of you are on the crimsondaggers forum, you've seen it already.

Hey Loathsome, you've really stepped up your game since the last time I was here. Especially that first piece, 'monsterguy' - wow!

Really great to see you posting again.

Haha, the mantits are beautiful =) Great work on the fat wizard, a bit of feedback on him, would've maybe done a few more touches to his tummy tattoo to make it go around a bit more on the other side. Composition is awesome though, nice job! =)
