    ARTICLE

I just wrote a huge article on the topic "How to get good at art".
I hope people get something out of it, I spent a lot of time trying to explain things and guide new people on the right path.

I don't know.. I just started drawing some fat lumpy character and it turned into this.

The progress of this wasn't the best because I decided in the end that I wanted to add a background to help the colors but I went some weird route with that. But I think the character came out pretty neatly. I need to get my process down.. the only way to do that is to do more stuff!

I've been away for some time, sorry about that. I've been stuck in games again as well as some other things and I just realized I just can't play time consuming games anymore. Supermario is enough for me.

Trying to get into the motion of things again.

    -----------------------------------------------------

Here's something I've been working on.
I'm so lost with this piece.. I dunno how to take it to the next step. I now know I want top down lightning like in the last thumbnail. But I dunno if I like the low saturated colors. It doesn't really go well together with my own art style and project. I also don't know if I'd like working that monochromatic.

    I'm so fucking stuck!

Hey man the piece looks promising, no need to worry hehe you got the hard part down already just try think logically i guess, like where the lights coming from as well as the mood, is it gritty and depressing or is it supposed to be dramatic, just play around its all experience!

Hey bro, last one is fine, could maybe use accents of a diff colour, like red or something to add some fun =) And then the mono colours cover most of the lighting.. just a thought, hope it helps =)

    fudge: I'll try my best!
kungfoo: Yeah but I dunno where I should put the reds.

    Today's study.
    2hour 15minutes portrait
Really tried to see values, I wanted to push this as far as I could but then I slowly started to notice that some parts of the face were slightly off and it started to look a lot less like the person so it really threw me off. The hair was hard too! Damn curls.

I guess I need to spend at least 15 minutes more on structure before heading into value.. I always think i've nailed the proportions when I actually haven't, haha..

Wow.. nice portrait bro =) You got the shadow shapes blocked in nicely imho =) Yeah I find hair hard too, I'm trying to just emphasise a few strands here and there and then the rest is kept soft =) Nice job though, your hair looks pretty convincing =)

Had people over for the week. Haven't done much art during that week, sadly. I've done some scribbles in the sketchbook but that's nothing I'll post.

Here's a little doodle I did today just to get into the digital realm again. Going to start kickin' it with the studies too. I've been kinda lazy

    Nice update & good strokes.

& Mostly I just wanted to say thanks for the feedback - it was very good and accurate & I'll spend some time fixing it (the girl never got the love she deserved, nor the focus - and I also agree about the chest getting too much contrast as I think the piece got too centered around the main character and I kind of lost the general balance.

that's all said in hindsight after your comment by the way - så tackar ~

Hey guys thanks for the comments.

I've been really bad the past few weeks. I've been completely out of sync and things haven't been going the way I want them to.

But today I tried to get back into it. I did some figuredrawing and played around in photoshop again. I'm going to start doing studies every day again and draw and.. yeah

anyway here's something I made quickly just to get into things again

    Help me out guys.
How the fuck do I keep the energy in this piece? Man I've been busting out linedrawings of this thing for hours and it still keeps looking like shit.

I think it might be because of all the anatomical problems the original has, but it's yet effective and when I try to correct them (my weak attempts..) it looks off because the errors can't be fixed without fucking up the line of movement?

I dunno.. please help me out with this one.

Great improvement in this sketchbook. Regarding the latest piece, you might want to push the perspective a bit more. Maybe shorten the right hand, send it further towards the horizon. Maybe lean his head back a little to create a bow/whip-like energy with the silhouette. Also, all the lines you've created leads to the chest/head region, and this can work well, create the energy you're looking for. What's keeping it from working is the tail-like structure, which forms almost a parallel flow to the central movement, and hence, in my eyes, takes away the dynamism from the image.

Anyway, I've blabbered for far too long. Best of luck with the piece, and keep the updates coming.

That looks neat man, I might go with that.. if I decide to finish this.
I'm not a hundred percent sure I'll continue on this piece.. I dunno if it's really translating the idea at all.

I might just redo the whole fucking thing and hope for some better treatment of the whole concept.

I got to do more poses from head too, that paintover made me realize that!
