    Star Trek Space Battle!

I took a little break from the girlies for this Star Trek illustration. Star Trek is my current day job and this assignment was for a recent PC Gamer article featuring our title.

Drawn and rendered in PS. Total time approx. 8 hrs including research, revisions and coffee breaks

I don't like that no one has responded to this yet.
This is a really good piece. It has a very dark atmosphere to it. Really depressing. Overall you really set the mood. I do have a few questions though.
The explosion that is directly behing the Enterprise -- where is it coming from? Debris is flying from it, but I can't tell if it is from the Enterprise or not. Maybe from the rear? If so, the rest of the ship doesn't really give an impression of a strike that large to the rear.
Also, the Klingon Bird-of-Prey in the foreground looks off a bit. It seems as if more of the "neck" of the vessel should be visible, just from the angle that the rest of the ship is at to the viewer.

Anyways, fantastic piece, as always. You are incredibly skilled, my friend.

I love Star Trek anything so this earns a big plus right off the bat... most epic.

Where is the explosion? Is it very far away, or right behind the Enterprise, the sense of distance is a little lost (I understand that's a function of being in space perhaps, seeing as there is no atmosphere to give "distance haze").

    Very cool!

I figured the explosion was an artistic choice to highlight the Federation ship so that it wouldn't get lost in the dark background. It works really well for the composition even if the 'real world' relations involved are pushed aside due to artistic license.

    Great job!
