Currently working with Jennifer Poulter, award winning children's book writer, on a few books. I do a lot of sketching while on the train traveling to and from different English teaching jobs in Japan.
Mainly just sketching for ideas and knowing that, this is what I'd rather be doing for a living anyway.
Some nice work here. I think for your colour pieces though, you need to work a bit on your value range. Right now everything is in the mid value range... You don't really have any real lights or darks. If you're using photoshop hit shift+ctrl+u every once in a while to check to make sure you're not getting too washed out with your values.
You have some really cool and interesting ideas man, nice sketches. I think you just gotta get the hang of the digital medium, which will come with patience and practice. Just keep working at getting some stronger values, colors, and edge variation (sharp/soft). Keep it up!
Turbosnail thanks man! Still a beginner with PS!
Jasper_ thanks man! Practising as much as I can. Most of those sketches I do on trains and buses goin to different teaching jobs.
Really appreciate all comments, crits, tips, etc! Ninety something percent self taught, and trying to use little or no reference!
Would love an education!!
Here's one of me sketches with col! Still a work in progress, for practise mainly!
All the best!
hey man, good start to the sketchbook. There is a big improvement from between the last 2 images alone. Keep it up. I would suggest working at 100 percent brush opacity with, if your tablet has pressure sensitivity, the opacity jitter set to pen pressure on other dynamics. Also really try to block the forms in with a large brush at the beginning, then go back in refining. Also if you were looking for anatomy boooks, scribd has a couple Bridgman books and andrew loomis in pdf format. Keep at it, this is a life long journey!
Sort of looks like a bug/kangaroo thing with some necris goth as its rider. It looks a little light though, not very strong colour. Try using a stronger tone perhaps? Otherwise a nicely strangely originally cool concept!
As for the rough images above, try to use a smaller file size. Im on dialup and it kills when soemthing like that turns up
All in all, nicely done. You have some strong skills, so keep using them! Regular updates!
Metal Fingers thanks a lot! I'll keep that in mind!
NanoBlack thanks man! yes it does look a little bug/kangarooish, and the rider, cool description, thanks! will be adding more colour and stuff! sorry bout the big file load above, my bad!
A wee dump!
First are some of my sketches done for daily sketch group and others, and yeah light with the brush, next are skulls and a dragon done a while ago, with a diff brush. Experimenting I am!
Great sketchbook, really like a lot of the animal drawings and the mer-people look great, but I agree, try to use a broader spectrum of values (mer people images).
