Checked out your first few pages and the last few. 60+ pages is too much to go through. From the first pages to ther last your style is recognizable but with a hell of a lot of improvements. Great work. Great Skbook.

Hive_minD - yeah man, definitely! I'll have to experiment with showing some of the lines and stuff.. arh, need to do more stuies and more random doodlings exploring these kind of things and you should definitely do cow!

    kischi
    - Thank you for the feedback I agree with you about the wings, really had to rush them in the end

    Ludic
    - Ahh.. dude! supah awesome! ska lätt ge mig in i tävlingen. Riktigt lägligt, precis när min tablet krånglar kan jag få en ny gratis perfekt! gotta check it out!

    Oren90
    - Thank you!

Mitze - Hehe, sorry about that Thank you!

    Kiwee - Thanks!

Flashback - Glad you like it even though its unfinished

hey guys, here are some concept explorations for the COW .. I really have no clue of what kind of creature I want.. so I'm fooling around a bit, will sleep on these and make a decision tomorrow! So far I like the fat one the most.. it feels nice and plump and slow and cosy like.. you could ride on it and it would walk around really slowly haha.
Thanks for all your awesome feedback!
    stay in tune for studies

btw.. just have to share this. Game of Thrones is awesome!! you have to watch this series! finally some good fantasy since lord of the rings. Not to mention the insanely cool intro! probably the best intro I've seen with an epic soundtrack too!

I'm really liking that collection of thumbs you did for this COW, seems to be a good way to brainstorm and explore all (or most) possibities. I may consider doing something like that in the future. Keep up the awsome work dude!

Art is not about competing against others and being better than everyone else, but it is about competing against yourself and discovering your greatest potential!

Sevarenge - Haha yeah man! I like the plated one too.. maybe I'll go with that one.

    Flashback

Odayga - Cool to hear! thanks

UmpaArt - Haha aye, but 'tis isn't enough!

nim - Haha you're always cracking me up and yes you should check GoT, boobies, nice storry telling and swords, oh and did I mention boobies? Seems like HBO series are starting to take another route with Spartacus and these others coming up.. more nakedness.
Man! Ceramics sounds really fun! I havent tried it myself but here at school there's this really cool and nice old lady who's been doing it for one year. It's really fun to check her work too You should do a birdbath shaped as a panda in ceramics! yeah! (maybe not ) see you around!

    studies!
Painted a portrait of a girl. I've used some other brushes for this one, mainly a soft lightly textured brush and a brush immitating oils.
Vaguely touched upon how to mix shapes with hard edges with soft shapes.. it gives a certain feeling though. Something I will explore a lot more.

Noticed many things while I was working -

    - The face is EXTREMELY sensitive to temperature changes in colour and change of value.

    - the slightest change in the key shapes (Nose, lips, eyes) have a radical impact on the face.

    - The girl had a cool red castshadow, leaning towards purple hues in relation to the rest of her face

-There was a warm red hue in the shadowplanes facing her skin (very subtle bouncelight from the skin I guess)

-Her face had a variety of 3 main hues; yellow, orange and purples.
-the slightest change in temperature turns the color "muddy" (Richard schmid defines a muddy color as a colour having the wrong temperature in relation to its context - example, a cold brown would turn to mud while a warm brown would work in the face)

-colours are very relative, the yellow hues in the cheek look orange when painted next the her skin tone.

Faces are really interesting. I also think its very interesting how well we perceive the human face.. how the slightest changes can change what we see. This was fun, want to do more face studies!

    Also did a face from mind in grayscale using the same values as the girls portrait which were;

    face:
    lights, around value 1
    midtones, around value 2,5-3 (neck)
    shadows, around value 5,5-6 (castshadow)

    hair:
    lights, around value 3
    midtones, around value 5,5-6
    darks, around 6,5-7

tons of flaws, but hey, gotta start somewhere! as for the portrait from mind, catastrophe, proportions are so off.. big eyes, big nose big lips.. arh. Gotta practice! people are so much harder than monsters..

regarding the cow, many of you seem to like the fat one, and so do I.. so, updates on that tomorrow!

    laters!

so... decided upon a fat one - the plated concept that most of you liked and that I liked a lot as well
Here's a 3/4 view sketch. Tomorrow I'll start adapting it to 3 of the environments and add some nice unique details!
    take care!

Wow is all I can say, out of all the work I've seen on CA and most of the internet, yours is easily my favourite, this is exactly the kind of stuff I want to be able to create, How long/often have you been drawing? anything specific you concentrated on?

Yeah Mulle-San! Be careful on how you mass your lights and darks in the current creature render, there are a lot of darks and lights all over the place and its getting a bit hard to read, but yeah, you already knew that. you sexy panda steak eating swede.

Woah man why aren't you at 5-stars anymore? I blame the SB section trolls. Your work is definitely top tier IMO....your creatures are just beautiful. I'm gonna study some of 'em and see what you did with the proportions and anatomy ;p.

SemperOne - Haha woa! thanks hmm.. to answer your question. I have always been drawing but I started drawing with the intention of getting better when I found CA back in 2008.

I have always been inspired by the great artists on this site and tried to learn from them, especially algenpfleger and how much he did every day. How often is hard to say, during these 3 years its been going up and down. Sometimes I haven't been drawing for many weeks, sometimes I've been drawing many hours every day. It's been going up and down.

Right now though I'm in a fairly good routine, spending atleast 1-2 hours on studies and another 2-3 hours on stuff from mind. so.. a few hours a day.

Specifics.. there's always the fundamentals. I think I've been focusing on them in one way or another all the time, hues, values, anatomy, colour relationships, how light works etc. Thats what you need to learn, but you don't have to do it the textbook way, you can learn those things by doing fun stuff like monsters too.

Just keep on working and learn who you are and what works for you! Don't be too hard on yourself either, if something doesn't work for you it's probably because you're not doing it in the right way for you. What works for one person doesn't always work for another. Do what you love, love what you do

    Aryeh - Thanks!

Metal Fingers - Ohh man Alex, you know we're the reason for the diminishing numbers of Pandas right poor things.. but damn, these steaks are so good! and yeah, I already knew that thanks for the heads up though!

Deadlyhazard - Thanks for liking them! hope they'll be able to teach you something

wips wips. I feel I understand values better after doing some of these studies! keeping it loose for now, gonna play around with some colour. still some perspective issues with the head.
My 3 enviros (so far) are

    Atlantis
    Icecavern
    Temple of Shadows

Have some interesting ideas for Atlantis, playing around with bioluminescence, patterning and outgrowths. The problem here is to define Atlantis, is it a sunken city? or a sci-fi civilisation? in what context would these creatures be found in Atlantis etc.

For ice cavern I'm thinking of a more "natural" creature, adapted to its environment.

As for shadow, for some reason purple has become the universal colour for darkness/shadow (blizzard games, magic cards etc.) - it's hard to show shadow and break free from that but I'd like to try. My shadow concept is purple now though

Again, this creature's design is more fit for "natural" environment such as lava, ice, marsch .. rather than an environment based on civilization but I'd still like to try to fit it into a more unexpected environment

Thank you for your kindness take care!

*edit* added colour concepts. Nothing is final, just fooling around!

Whoa, they all look pretty awesome, but i'd go with the second one.
Dens högerarm ser lite små-skum ut med den där ljuskällan mitt i, ser ut som att de ska vara skugga där istället.

    Great job som alltid

Damn the studies you have done - just tons ~ I'm deeply impressed (and humbled)!.

Love the creatures and how you did the slim normal and fat/large versions, resulting in the latest post. The russian (like anyway) egg to dragon was also neat, as are your dragons and studies of lizards.

I also love how agile, feline, you make many of your lizards and creatures -. like #1573 (I think it lost a bit in the next iteration).

& Creatures like the one in #1538 are just nice - like

One negative ~62 pages? takes forever and ever to go through all that so I had to stop at 40 for the time being ~ får ta resten nästa gång ~

In the end it's an inspirational journey - thanks for posting and I'll be around for more.

It would be cool to see different particle effects trailing out of their mouth or some part of their body to distinguish what region they are from other then the coloring, the rendering looks dope though.
