    Not Quite Heaven

    Hello,

While researching heaven, because I don't really know anything about it, I found that some believe that their is a journey before we reach heaven.

I thought that would be just fine for "not quite heaven" because if you were on that journey how would you really know if you had reached the real heaven or not?

In this environment I am depicting a space where one might think they have reached a heaven in the clouds but it is really a space for one to wait for their final judgment.

okay, thanks for reading this, enjoy.

Guilefine: My vote goes to you, no doubt. You did a great job on the arch, not only in terms of details but also on its placement and perspective. Surprisingly, i like the colors too, a lot.
Now for crits, i think the character doesnt read visually like your text description. The fact that he has wings and can fly is confusing, more feels like "late angel shut outdoors after lights out" than what you said you wanted. Maybe you could have depicted the moments just before he arrives the door; where he is walking up the way, his back to us and head looking up as he discovers the place.

Less importantly, the clouds could have used a tiny bit more refinement at some places, mostly softening to avoid the slight cauliflower look.

    Except for that, nice job.
The cliché topic with "not quite" before it made it really tough i think, so props to you all who entered!

Thanks a lot, your crit is spot on.

There are just so many elements to think about when doing this stuff and the more I do it the more I will be conscience of all these little subtle things that could make or break a picture. Clouds, fabric and water are really hard for me. Their hard and soft edges are just to much for me to handle sometimes.
Thanks for taking the time to write, I really enjoy hearing what others think about my work

Well, it doesn't show! I looked at your environment work on flicker and I see a very nice combination of crisp and soft linework. I loved it! One of these days I'll force myself to get beyond soft paintings. In the meantime, I'll just enjoy yours.

Okay I really liked all of these actually, but I felt that Oomgawa's handled the definition of the brief the best Well done!!

“It is enough that we set out to mold the motley stuff of life into some form of our own choosing; when we do, the performance is itself the wage.”
    -Learned Hand

"The most beautiful thing we can experience is the mysterious. It is the source of all true art and science. He to whom the emotion is a stranger, who can no longer pause and stand wrapped in awe, is as good as dead; his eyes are closed." ~Albert Einstein
