I'll go first. I won't mind if it gets lost over time though. So, if you don't take my entry to poll cos of it, it's ok. I'm more interested in the participation.

    The DRAGTOR,
a tractor once no different from any other until one fateful day as it lay in the shed, gathering dust and rusting away a tin of pink paint fell onto the bonnet and gave the owner the inspiration to create awesomeness!

so yeah technically still a tractor but now has a less than normal use

    good luck to everybody.

This is my Main Battle Tractor from planet D-Holme,
powered by nuclear fusion reactor and armed with 8 ballistic missiles.

(tractor was used for 'tank' in germany like 90 years ago, so it's a tractor )

    Some notes on this round:

Or actually, a question. The last couple of round I refrained from doing a quality check before putting up the poll. Though this means everyone has a chance to get votes etc, it might not do the overall quality of the entries any good. After all, we're still in here to make pretty pictures and learn from your peers too, not just to have fun. Please let me know what you guys prefer! Thanks.

I voted for Rezeroth. It's not really an interesting perspective but I really like all the mechanical parts. My second choice would be njoo

    It's a bit tricky actually.
Is the emphasize on getting it done within the time limit, or on the quality?
I opted for quality, which is why I am late.
Others had theirs ready as soon as the finals thread opened, but perhaps they could have questioned the quality of their work a bit more profound?
I must admit that I also failed to give any feedback towards the quality of the entries myself, so maybe giving feedback to eachother could be promoted more prominently at the start of each topic? (to stimulate each participant to offer feedback, no matter what level he/she is at)
    Just a thought

    Factors
    1. While CA forums have a massive following, there is a limited pool of artists willing and able to "compete".
    2. Community Activities has a bit of a categorical breakdown by popularity and theme.
    3. Team CHOW II looks to be soaking up many of the regulars.

CA has mentoring forums for the beginner and novice artists.
Should only moderate to advanced artists be eligible to "win".
The "prize" is mainly a boost to self-esteem, a bit of social status (recognition from peers), and an icon. Should this be coveted?

I'd say do some quality control. Nothing too stringent as I realize depending on how you decide, a large portion of entries (from the already small field) would be gone. I would take getting cut as a challenge to get in the poll next time, but others might not. If someone still wants feedback, they are perfectly free to post it in the poll thread and get feedback. I think if you're given a week (assuming you start on time) there is a certain point when there just hasn't been enough work done. I agree with NR43 that there really wasn't a whole lot of critting going on in the wip thread. Guilty of not doing it too.

Soooo, some crits that can be ignored whenever you want!!! .....:

Cookiedough: The perspective on the larger image is looking a bit wonky. The front wheels look fine, but as you go up the top of the vent, the dashboard, the seats etc. start tilting. The steering wheel is also a bit off. If you followed the shaft downwards it would exit the tractor somewhere by the wheel as opposed to somewhere in the centre where the steering mech would be. Your butt would be sooooo sore from those wooden wheels!

I-Z: I think you need to look at drawing ellipses in perspective my dear. Your wheels and wheel coverings are quite wonky. I like the neat material it seems to be made of. Some thoughts just from a practical point of view are that 1) where would the driver climb up to the cabin? 2) how would he see out?

Bagg: Front tire's still higher than the back! If you cropped the pic a little more, you could make a more focused impression. Right now there's more grey space than there is tractor. The seat looks really interesting.

Luci Fer: I think we would benefit from a slightly larger image. It's a bit small to see any details. Once again, ellipses in perspective are being your downfall here. I like the way you did the snow.

njoo: Just adding some brighter hilights on the metalic parts would really make this pop. Right now it looks kinda gloomy and matte. Lovely design.

Rabies: I like the idea of a floating tractor. Two questions for you 1) what are the honeycomb things? 2) what is in the bg?. You've decided to do a very difficult lighting arrangement with yellow and blue on pink, and I think this went against you simply because how difficult it is to do.

fughi from yuggoth: Design wise, I think the small size of your wheels are counterproductive. Tractor = traction = large surface area. The really small wheels makes the tractor look like it's going to collapse. The back wheels also could be a bit clearer. The excessive lines there are keeping the details from us. I like your design. Really, other than the wheels, I think it could be very very interesting with a bit of work.

Benza: The back wheels look like they're floating a bit. I think it's because the grass doesn't go all the way to the horizon. (about level with the bottom of the side window). The grass isn't green in places.... looks like accidental colour jitter.

Rezeroth: Really only two things that I can find: 1) a hilight on the hood to match the light on the wheel covering 2) some more love to the hubcap thingies. My vote.

Everyone- check out Yoitisi's sig for his mentoring thread and read some of them. Good stuff there on ellipses, perspective etc.

Yaaaaaaa!!!! for the number of entries!!!!!!!!! Great job everyone!!!!!!
