Hey i dunno if what i'll say has already been said, i read fastly your post, i'm kinda busy, but maybe we should first create the character's stories ! I mean if we create a whole story for our character, the design process will be kinda easier, a lot more accurate about what we wanna do, and if the stories are great, we will be able to create some great designs far from the stereotypes ! Hope to hear more from ya ! Take care all !
Oh Btw, i talked with dwardo and he said he'll do his own team !

Granny!! No mercy looks sick, and fits the theme the best me thinks!! Actually, all your evil sides are good! I think you could put more into the good ones though, they aren't as strong as the evil ones. (RAISE TAXES LOL XD)
yup i agree walid, matt started doing that last night!!!
Also, it's kind of tedious to go through, the but game design thread in the lounge has some real jewels and info on good character design and stories. A lot of us have been practicing our character descriptions in there for the upcoming project--check it out if you got time.
and thanks to all the people stopping by and supporting us!! You are all awesome!! *o*
kk everyone back to work, y'all doing great!! ^^

Hi guys, here is the concept work for that game i told you about.
This is not the full collection, but you can see that there were several different artists on the team with noticeably different styles---it still works!
You see they are all coherent with their design and sticking to the theme:
This is much more important than trying to unify the way we paint or render.
Notice the one person draws traditionally with a very unique, more realistic style, while the others were drawn digitally in anime style--yet you can tell they have the same goals and come from the same assignment.
I wish I can find the site with the full collection--like I said. there were about 10 artists on the team and they continually added more designs over and over again. Their theme was old spanish colonial mixed with rococo and victorian, with a modern twist.
SO, have faith guys--our radically different styles WILL work, and we WILL bring it all together! yay! : D
I will be making a tentative calendar for us just so we have some structure and deadlines and we'll all be on the same page.
Goals for today and tomorrow (and of course you can spend more time on this afterwards):
-Collect references, GO TO THE LIBRARY <---- I promise you, just head over to the fantasy novel section and the cover art will inspire you. Create ref collages, bookmarks, etc.
-write up your drafts for your character descriptions. Remember, if you are creating a race not on the original Team CHOW II list, you must have a good explanation within your write up!!! These don't have to be perfect, but better to start now like walid said!
-once we collect these write ups, we'll talk via msn on the overall color theme and mood + enviros since we are still a little stuck on that.

CONCEPT ART FOR HIGH FANTASY GAMES
hope this inspires some of you. we don't need to copy these styles at all, but it will give you an idea of how we can manipulate high fantasy.
-Warhammer Online: Great examples, and one of the artists posted their tutorial in the "FINALLY FINISHED" Thread. The work goes by years, look at all of them. They are full of goodies.

-Legend of the Seeker: the greatest of corny high fantasy knock offs. Very simplistic designs, but if you are not familiar with high fantasy, google this show and check out this small gallery.

-Age of Conan: Highly rated. The enviros for this are stunning as well. Their concept work has a great play on the barbarian/brawler type. A more prehistoric tone to the high fantasy.

(it will ask for you bday, just put it in and it will direct you to the page).
-Priston Tale II: High fantasy with another twist. Check it out, some very unique designs in here.

Group SB manager: Matt
Video Compilation: Mike
Walid and Granny, is there anything you'd like to do specifically? ? Like making vids also, or helping to maintain the calendar or our MSN meetings? Or be in charge of organizing our ref links and stuff? I need to make a list of group activity and what everyone is doing, so please let me know what you'd like to do/be called! Dun worry, I know everyone's busy in their life, if you can't fit in anything else, that's fine too
GO GO GO TEAM : D
Can you please put this in the first post if possible/ Just so it's easier for everyone to find?

Just some sketches from before.
Not like the first one (somesort of elf king?), but I like the sillo and heavy layers of the second one. Not sure what race he is yet, either ork, troll or whatever.
For the second one I tried to make him more neutral, so we can easily change from good to evil.
Possible store for Character: Good character, but not necessarily kind or friendly. He has a twin... the darker version of character. They grew up with a lot of wealth, but the (good) character's spoiled and unfriendly manner drive the (evil) brother/twin/character from his live, and into a life of murder and crime.
So the first brother grows up spoiled, rich, unfriendly and stuck-up... but still good.
And the second brother grows up poor, always in with the wrong crowd, determined... and evil.
Just trying to play with the whole goodVevil thing, and also the two versions on the same character stuff.
Sorry, I'm still just playing with idea's
EDIT: Oh and some of my favorite fantasy creatures are from these guys (click on CREATURES) - http://www.stewartandriddell.co.uk/edge/- some great backstorys too!

wow lots of great updates! go team!!
hala thanks so much for organizing the calender and this will help mucho in getting coordinated!
granny awesome meow sketch, i luv the design and i think would fit greatly with the changeling, also i think that's a great idea, to keep the design similar with the side the character resides on!
Matt awesome sketches mate, really dig the second one a lot, it looks like the second one leans more towards the dark side but dig the style on that one!
haha dwardo, it's not finished, not even close just a quick sketch on that dwarf dood with the axe, but thanks again to you and all that drop by for leaving comments and crits!!! =D
here's some more characters I'm messing around with, took some from the sketchbook and worked on a bit digitally

i love the butcher man, i like the dynamic perspective.
i think the last piece looked better without the gladiator dude, he looks out of place. they all definitely have a good design though
