Mmm looks like a Scott Robertson tutorial. Great studies, the simple shapes is of course the most important thing that we must study, it's pretty much all there is. And it's a study that must last forever. It's a pitty that most people beginning don't belive this.
Your work is very clean, I should try to do something like those more often. Thanks for posting.

    WOW!
    This is great!
Glad to see you improve so much, your values are great in those studies.
Btw if you plan on starting colour study, I've heard that the book by James Gurney is the one to choose.

damn dude, the matte surface rendering is really going well! you're just hitting those values spot on. if you feel like you're comfortable with matte and want to try your hand at different surfaces and forms you should check out phil saunders's "understanding and communicating form" article/tutorial. lots of good material there about different reflective conditions and materials. keep up the good work

Just a thought. In the last render, wouldn't the shadows get progressively darker as you go deeper under the object since there will be more occlusion of light ? I think that part looks a little to plain in tone that its not popping out as much.

Anyway... as always i admire your approach, I can learn just by looking at it. Looking forward to more

fenixx: couldn't agree more on that one, and now that I think about it, the cast shadow doesn't allow much reflected light to go on that spot so it should be darker, but anyways it was just a quick exercise

p sage: woah thanks for rating my thread and that study is not taken from any book, not everything I do is from books, that particular one is one of my old classmates

Kungfoowiz: haha thanks yeah I've tried editing the gif to get the last image to show a bit longer but then CA.org wouldn't let me upload it, so it ain't my fault

    more quick stuff
