njoo: To elaborate, yes, you need to show wips. The Final Burning thread will go up soon, and there you will post your file (using the attachment editor, with the naming convention given) as well as your progress shots. There is no rule for *how* to present your wips, that's up to you.

(btw is WIP required? or is there some formal way to do it,etc I noticed everyone seem to be following some type of guideline for posting WIP) *well that was answered hehe, I'll put up the WIP tomorrow after I search through my message PSDs and save them properly)
    Looks awesome! really.

I really like it, though, I feel him more as a samurai. Don'taskmewhy. D:

of course silly, Assassin's creed took place in the same period that Saladin was active. That period of Crusading was one of the most fascinating. Between the two titans of Richard the Lionheart (for all his foibles of character even he was a wiser man than many of his contemporaries) and Saladin (who knew when to fight and when to talk). Guy of Lusignan and Baldwin IV (the leper king in some stories) were fascinating in their own right, as well as the battles and maneuvers constantly taking place.

Well I'm glad you went for this approach

The face looks wonderful. The feet/legs have some odd angles. I realize this is partially because of his puffy pants and mostly because you haven't gotten there yet, but I figured I'd mention it.

While I'm certainly partial to the depictions of Saladin in less-combat oriented poses your picture is wonderful. It also caries its more fantastic elements very well.

This round is already full of awesome entries - can't wait to see all the finished versions ; tnx CHOW for such a cool topic

i d like to give it a go , time allowing; i just got inspired to do a little sketch of his face ; in case i finish it , he'll be on the contemplative side ; hopefully showig off the jaded expression of a life-long warrior and the wisdom of a leader of his rank , or something along those lines

Thank you for the feed back on the cape and cloth. I've adjusted it... alot. lol Any crits to help me refine it are very much appreciated.

Markusthebarbarian: I like your character's face and posture. It gives it a very commanding air

Tesla: I think the background colors you've chosen are beautiful. I can't wait to see it fleshed out

Howie: I like how you mixed the two pieces together. I think there is a lot of detail you can pull from your sketches

Tomás Aira I might have to invest in a tripod... your suggestion is a very good one. At the moment I use my poor husband as a guinea pig

great job everyone, everything is looking awesome.
I got some more work done. Im really happy with how it's coming out, the chain mail especially i think looks good. All thanks to Darken who posted a video tutorial on how to make a chain mail brush and how to use it. Here is a link to it incase anyone else would like to know. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=VJL-HGjqsRo

The only thing in the video that I did that he didn't was I turned on bevel and emboss on the layer I was using the chain mail.

Inspiring topic. Here's my take, so far. By the way he did get trounced by Richard the Lionheart twice, at Acre and Arsuf, and Baldwin the teenage leper beat him at Montguisard, so he wasn't quite all that.

Jason Snair - Nice pose and a strong impresson! Me want to se finished

The Saint - Saladin looks a bit evil.

Volj - His proportions is still off. Hes to wide.

ImaGeenation - he looks a bit skew. but I guess you seen that.

    Shardana - Great value tone.

Pixeltuner - Good start I like the design especially the helmet.

Raymus - Intresting design but what are those things on his back?

Brewin - Wonder where your sketches will take you. Have you decided on a design yet?

Desmayado - I guess your a bit of subject, Ithought the brief stated "Historic" but intresting take.

Aldoskirin - Nice armour design but its a character design so work more on saladin and try to show some character in him. Maybe work on his face. Good start.

Tomas Aira - Great pose and composition, me like!

Howie - Great thumbs I like 7 the most. Nice mix.

GRMC - He looks almost like a statue. slab some color on it!

Legionoffear - He looks like his balance is of. Try think of how he stands and put up some guidelines when you start the sketch.

Edriss - His left leg looks like its a bit to long, it should be easy to fix. I like your take on the subject!

Mr. P Show - Its more a action scene then it is a character concept. Other then that good job

The original[E] - Its a character concept, try and show more of his face. Its looks kinda strange seeing him from the back almost.

Arthur Two Sheds - Lovely! Splendid colors!

Stewe Marworthy - I dont really se whats going on but I guess its lots of action!

Adamsimons - Good start hes looking heroic!

Just call me bruce - Nice horse but you havnt put alot of time on Saladin yet.

IIkII - The second one is the best! Nice design.

Gerezon - I love his nose!

    Pahavasa - Nice colors.

Parascy the Jack - He looks creepy.

Quinn Simones - Nice armour design, and good rendering.

Isso 09 Nice sketch! keep it up.

Tesla - I like the colours but he looks kinda like a slave.

njoo - Lovely rendering and design! The proportions are of though. His head looks way to small and his body is hard to read. Thje sword is kickass!

Growly beast - Good start, you might want to show more of his body.

Marcus the barbarian - Nice, but hes a bit far away.

Pauscorp - Lets hope you finish it.

elliste - I would remove the dark shadow behind him.

Tommoy - Nice wip with lovely shapes and contrast.

dashinvaine - Nice start. you need to show more of him though.

Im sorry if I missed someone I tried to comment on everyones wips.
Good job all! And Its gonna be exiting! Cheers!

pahavasa, that is *awesome*. The horse looks a little thick to me, though? Looks more like a european war horse than one of the Arabians, but I have no idea what kind of horse he rode so take that as you will. :]

Just to nit pick with your nit pick, those aren't Templars. One is a Teutonic Knight, the other of the Livonian Swordbrethren. As for the rest, you're quite right.

Took me a while to get a sketch I liked, but here it is. I'm going to do the final in Illustrator - maybe experiment with some textures.

I think a thick wall does. I'm pretty sure, actually. Like those on ol' good Jerusalem.

pahavasa i don't think it looks like european one, although i'm not very good about horses. But I just saw its bended 'arm', i think it's a little back and strange one bended and other no (i only have seen if it's on the ground, although i'm not very good, as i said), and the belt on withers-shoulder can be confusing with saladin clothes.
    Other thing... I luv it!!

pahavasa: Here's what I mean about the horse: Here is an arabian and here is a Friesian. You can see that the arabian has a much thinner neck and not so heavy hooves, compared to the Friesian that was bred in Europe for the crusades.

    Hope this is helpful. :]

(Also, that friesian pic there is a great ref for the pose you're trying for!)
