Newborn: Birth of an idea/world
Even though I'm a newcomer here, when I saw this contest my brain started to go into maximum overdrive.
My idea was to show how worlds are born from an idea. There were many ideas I wanted to incorporate, but I soon found out that it was too much to put on one page. So I went with the idea of making a Tree of Life, or a Worldtree, which holds worlds, and which are born from the mind.
Down here you see a few stages of the whole process, and I'm still far from finished. Some are made in Photoshop, others i sketched, but after sketching i found out that I couldnt incorporate them good, it was too off. So i decided to keep it in PS, but...I'm not very handy in Photoshop yet, so it was a lot of trial and error, but watching the tutorials from MassiveBlack really help. I finally feel that i found the way too put my ideas on one page, and make the composition reasonably OK to look at.
I hope you like it. Remarks or tips are always welcome.

cool great sketches
not crazy about the color yet because i think the markings in black and white are really nice.
but I will reserve judgment until i see the whole thing in full color.

Color on the last pic is not final, it was just an overlay-layer to get a rough idea for the color. I want the color to be softer, hope I can manage in PS.
I'm still in doubt if I should finish the pencil-sketch, try to fit the city in right, or keep going with the very rough PS-sketch (last two), will define that much more.
Tonight (European timezone) will be another update.

As promised, an update.
Unfortunately working with PS didn't go too well this evening, busy for 1.5 hours but in the end I messed more up then I improved Next time better, and still a lot to learn.
During break at work I worked a bit on the pencil sketch, trying to incorporate the city. Turned out better then expected. I think I will stay with the pencil-sketch. I will be tracing the lines again, make them cleaner and better. I got something to do during my breaks tomorrow
Till next time.
