I don't think anyone yet has spotted that my pupils look as they're stretched the entire length of the iris like a cat, but that was fun.

Yeah... I was trying to see if could combine reality with imagination but it didn't quite turn out how I planned. I'm considering it a learning experience. Sorry about that. Thanks for being a good sport about it.

    Sorry I didn't respond earlier...

Laura-Thank you for taking the time to look through my sketchbook. I had intended to draw the ribs on both side but ran out of space.

Granny- Sounds dirty so, um, OK... Seriously though, I have a really great idea but don't know if I have the skill to pull it off... I need a little time to work on it.

My computer fell apart early this week... literally. The plastic casing has been breaking for a while and I had some duct tape holding it together but it finally had enough. I had planned to work on my "Battle of the Sexes" piece but couldn't work up the guts to start painting without looking at my photo references. Funny, because last time I did that I didn't end up referring to them much in the end.

All I did this week was a lot of doodling. I have a lot of reasons but excuses are worthless. This is a copy from a photo reference and the only thing really (almost) worth posting. Really it was just playing around and trying to build on the Posemaniacs.

Thanks, Granny... Maybe after "Battle of the Sexes"

Here's my latest update. Didn't have a lot of time to work and now I need to let it dry a bit before moving on. It's nice to be painting, though-I've been bored with graphite lately and looking for a new challenge.

I'm not happy with the perspective on the short sword but I think it's too late to fix it before the deadline as the paint will take too long to dry to overpaint it.

With a little more time I would make their faces look better and improve the short sword and plate but it's too wet to fix it much today so I'm going to stop working on it and turn it in.

Sevarage-Thanks for stopping by. I'm working on it

So now that I have some time... I hava a project I've been wanting to work on for a few months. I'm living in a house that was previously owned by my great grandparents (kind of a reluctant caretaker). I love the house but it needs a lot of work so my mom and I have been slowly remodeling. We had to replace a wall on an enclosed (but uninsulated) back porch due to some plumbing issues and I've been planning to paint a mural on it. My Great grandmother was an artist and the house is filled with her paintings so I wanted to kind of mimic her style in her honor. Sorry for the long backstory...

    This is the wall.
    Name: IMG_0991.JPG
Views: 268
Size: 87.6 KB

I did a few drawings (it took a few tries to get the waves right). These were drawn out last winter in colored pencil.
    Name: IMG_0990.JPG
Views: 268
Size: 34.2 KB Name: IMG_0989.JPG
Views: 274
Size: 37.3 KB
    Name: IMG_0988.JPG
Views: 273
Size: 152.3 KB

The wall is 7.5 ft x6.6 ft so when I did the sketches I worked 1in=1ft. Then I did a grid on the wall using chalk line to make sure my proportions stayed the same. I gessoed twice once before doing the chalk line and sketching in all the elements in pencil than I did a second coat over the top to cover up the chalk so it won't run into my paint. I'm hping to get started on the underpainting if not today than this week sometime.

These are a couple examples of my great grandmother's paintings...
To give full credit for them her name was Daisy Weber.

Sorry for the long post but I plan to post my progress here and thought it best to explain the entire process...

What a wonderful project and so much fun too. I like the pre-lim drawings. Keep it relatively simple and you'll be on to a winner.

Black Spot-Thanks. I'm excited about it but I don't know about simple... I usually mean to but sometimes I get ahead of myself.

    Liquidjack-Thank you! Come back anytime

Hi P sage... we were posting at the same time. Thanks. I'll probably need it.

A few WIPs. I'm starting with a complimentary underpainting which worked pretty well on Newborn.

I really want to take my time with this project. I have a tendency to rush through things because I'm excited to see how it turns out. Which is stupid because they would turn out better if I took my time...

Thanks, Jatherip I will try that.

So, this wasn't my original idea for Granny but it's the first step in a new idea that I may or may not get time to play with. Hope you like, Granny. Thanks for posting the awesome reference pic.

These are actually the same drawing but the photos were done in different lighting and I manipulated the brightness setting on one of them more. Honestly, sometimes things don't seem to photograph the same as they look to me in life and other things turn out better and I can't really figure out why.

That's a good pic of Grandma. I sometimes mess about with my scans as they don't always look like what I've drawn.

Black Spot & Jigje, Thanks for stopping by.
Granny-I'm so glad you like it!!

Haven't been updating lately because I've been very busy trying to get my house together for my Mom's 60th birthday party. It was a nice party and she was really happy but I'm so glad it's finally over and I have time to do what I want again.

Done tonight from a photo reference...
