    Matrix/Skynet, here we come

    http://www.newscientist.com/gallery/...nment-robots/1

"Their prototypes trap and digest pests like flies and mice to gain energy..."

Come on people! Today it's flies and mice, next thing you know you're marching along on a road paved with skulls to your new personal body harvester.

This is a coffee table that doubles as a mouse trap.

Crumbs are placed on the table to encourage mice to climb up the hole in the far-right table leg.

When the mouse stands on the trapdoor in the centre, sensors open the door and it falls into the microbial fuel cell.
Where they will find a new definition of pain and suffering, as they are slowly digested over a thousand years!

OMG technology its evil run away!!!

Seriously the whole idea of apocalypse via A.I is just plain stupid.

Wonder what a 2 week old rat carcass rotting away in your coffee table smells like?

Considering there are robot babies, and brain scans being used in Indian courts...a complicated fly trap doesn't exactly spell doom in my book.

God I hate the woman's voice on the video.

I have to agree with Pheonix, technology is already past fly killers, and arms designers have already made plenty of self guided, self targeting weapons.

It's growing into a bad, mad world out there.

As long as I get one of those fancy APU exoskeletons from the end of Matrix: Revolutions, I have no qualms.

The only one of those that would actually be useful is the lamp because it could get rid of mozzies at night.

The most morbid thing I find about this article is the human bodies aspect. I mean whatever happened to recovering bodies so that they can have a respectable funeral. This totally makes any dead person on a battlefield simply a commodity and not a person.
Of course there is a useful purpose behind this technology which would be to turn food and even manure/fecal waste into energy. I just feel the way they're promoting it is in a really scary way.

I think that they're making it in case we ever get into a war with North Korea. I mean, if their army comes at us there will be more bodies on the battlefield than we know what to do with. Mass graves would be a media problem... but if some scout robots "unthinkingly ate them when they confused the bodies with dead cows" then everyone wonders about the nuances and horrors of technology instead of pointing out the evils of western dictators.

What I want to know is how these things will tell the difference between injured/unconcious bodies and dead ones? It would really suck to come to and find yourself being digested inside the belly of a machine with a bunch of dead rabbits, lawn clippings, and whatever that gooey, foul-smelling mass in the corner is.
