melly belly, jelly rhymes with belly. (6/23/09)

Helloooo, I'm Melly and I'm 17 years old. I was sorta kicked onto this site by my friend because she says that I need to practice drawing again, and I agree with her, haha.

Anyhoo, I'm hoping to be able to improve my technique and expand my horizons with my work. I'm also hoping to be able to build a nice portfolio this summer for art colleges. Please help me along as I think I REALLY need some help, haha. C: Thank you for taking your time and looking through my work, I'll be sure to return the favor!

Let's start with a figure, since I have no clue how to start off this thing :X

melly belly, jelly rhymes with belly. (6/23/09)
This is a picture that I saw in an advertisment in my Elle magazine and I thought it'd be nice. However, I think I got lazy and made things a bit too hairy looking, haha.

These next few pictures are WIPs, the first one is supposed to become a marker drawing, however I haven't touched it for about 6 months, hopefully, I'll finish it and post it this summer! The second one is something I doodled up during standardized testing around may-ish june. I want to watercolor that one. The third is something that I have been working on late last night and parts of this afternoon. C:

Gestures, or something of the like. . _.

Thank you for visiting, jefflarose and collin6099. C:

So I did a couple gesturey things today. I actually had three pages, but I thought the first page was so "WHAT THE HECK AM I DOING?!" I just didn't include it. Poses are from that 30 second draw thingy on posemaniacs. C:

Oh, I also finished that last picture from the last post. Not much happened to it, I just scribbled some shading into the dude. . -.

    I'm sleepy, I got up early before church to make my dad a crepe breakfast. and it's been a while since I've woken up at 6am. D;

Haaa, yoou're so polite in your posts!

I like the oc drawings of yours, as I always have, and the back of that one naked chick ;D

Lawls, I can't give you any inspirational tips cuz I'm quite low on them atm, I'm still drawing my pokemanz and leaving my realism for a-another day~ :"D Cept draw real naked people, and not just posemaniacs- that's about it.

Welcome to the sketchbooks. I saw in your first post that you're looking to build a portfolio for art school. Along those lines I'd suggest really focusing on drawing from observation. It doesn't all have to be figure drawing. Set up anything you have in your room, something down the street... a crazy bug on the floor, whatever.

    Keep up the good work.

Heya Yungi ^^ Ty for the posts..love the lil comments..its nice sometimes. A suggestion for an a bunch of environment pics is terragalleria.com. this is where i will start looking for enviro's...its great ..you can even go to the search button and categorize it for enviros only and then random it...and it will come up with random ones...she updates the site regularly with more photos and there are already like 100,000? or something like that already on the site for your pleasure =)

Hope that helps..and i too love your work! especially the idea behind the mirror one. Its different ^^

Critiques: (and im not pro, obviously, but critiques are always welcome towards me )

    - the naked girl :: looks like you were trying to draw just an outline and facial lines and shade everything else? If not, wheres the love handles? collarbone? shoulderblade? more definite boneiness gives it more of a realistic look i hear (and i hate hair..still have trouble shading myself) .i am only NOW learning to look for these same things...shoot your better then me (not for long!! it has be sworn!! *shakes fist!*)! lol.

Stop by anytime...will totally try to keep up with enviro's with you...first working on basics of perspective..but will be starting enviro's soon.

Keep up the good work.. (^^)

    doooodle

Fishy: I'm not that polite :C

johanson: thank you for your advice! I'm thinking about going down to the park tomorrow morning and sketching something! That is, if I can wake up early, haha.

    laxkor: haha, you're welcome.

NewGuy: thank you for taking your time and visiting! I like looking at your studies. C:

and also thank you so so so much for the environment refs! I'll definitely be looking through them.

Zorcron: Thank you for looking! I'll try to get some of my traditional stuff in, unfortunately, my room is still explosiony looking, so I'll have to clear it out before I can get some room to spread my materials out.

Aaaaand here's a doodley thing that I may or may not finish (floating canvas anyone?) . I suddenly wanted to draw something cartoony and light, haha.

    AGSLKDGSH. I'm so uncreative.

Yeah uhhm. Today was blaaaaaah day for art. I did some exercises but I think they're all too embarrassing to post, sorry! D: I prepared a few pieces of watercolor paper though, so I guess I'll be working on that in the near future.

Anyway, here's another doodle thingy that I did today. These are old characters that I created in the summer of 8th grade andddd stuff. It was for a webcomic (it really sucked) thing that I was drawing at the time. If anyone is interested, here's the link.

    Color Me Grey

Weeell, at least I've grown a little since then, lol.

yeeeeeah. Sorry for the crappy output so far. . _.''
