Great stuff! That fruit basket is really nice. The legs of those figures look alittle weird tough, otherwise great work!

worth the wait Christine, this last batch is looking tight, i luv all the loose brush strokes, definitely much more expressive! favorite one is this study, captured good forms, hues, composition, and really nice brush strokes! Plus i like that your using a more textured brush to paint with gives a really nice traditional feel!

    Moar like these please!

Great experiments and girls just wanna have fun, don't they? You're getting nice feel regarding colours. Fruit basket rules. Interesting characters, though you have to be careful with proportions (like elbows and chin in this pic). Keep it up!

PS. I didn't realize that this forum has some many medicine-related users. I'm a pharmacist myself. Good luck in your studies (both artistic and those more scientific)

My sketchbook Crits and advice highly encouraged!

It's been a while since i lats posted here, sorry for that Cris' <hugs>

Anyways, look at those last sketches, girl they are by far better than most of your older works, i'm happy to see such an improvement.

Yet watch out for those legs, as there's some anatomical (if that's a word) glitches.

Now that's what i'm talking about you're doing great in school & still making time to do those awesome sketches & paintings your figure studies are looking cleaner and getting more & MOAR confident & i really like how drew that skull in post #889, the lilies have really nice colors though the edges could be a little bit cleaner. really dig that fruit basket painting, your use of the custom brushes gives some very nice effects to to the fruit & surroundings great character designs Cristina, i must say they look so tasty love the body shapes & nice variety too, would love to see them pushed to a finish, the cowgirl's my fave

brambor - thanks brambor, good luck to you too! I'm not so surprised actually. I think artists are fascinated with the human body, nature etc, liked to know how things work at some point. Medicine just takes that love further heh
snootchy- you sure know how to leave a girl speechless Mike! That's one heck of a present, thank you!!! Also for your usual great input! Helped me improve big times over the last couple of pages!!

Icecold - Nah, don't worry Paul, i know you've been through a lot lately. Better late then never <hugs> And thanks for the encouraging words! Will level up all my work onwards!

Pixie Trick - Thank you so much Pix! Appreciate it!

miycko - you'll definitely see those two pushed to a finish, i'll make sure of it. i just won't post it till it's finished though heh. thank you for your comment, really, thanks a lot! Reading yours today made me update n draw some more today.

B-Man - Hahahahhahahahahhaha! Update it is!

alexson, wanimal , Krato, JailHouseRock2, SenEnd, thank you so much guys!!

Visited the page for the first time in a while. So many comments were here, thank you guys!

Guess i'll make a quick update then!
I just wanted to put this up till Self Portrait day wasn't that far back.
I was over busy with learning. Tests week was up, but heck!
This youtube vid reminded me of portrait day, and gave me the b&w study idea.
Had a lot of fun painting!

I have a few more pencil stuff witch i'll scan in tomorrow.

Danny_K - Hahah no need danny Thank you! It actually brightens another day, not just your actual bday heh. Really nice phrase with the sharp objects. hahahah
That should be me, yeah. I know i'm not quite there with the resemblance, but i'm working on it! Even if it'll be only one overly worked self portrait per year, and that will be on portrait day, i'll still do it! I attached the ref photo.

    alexson - Thanks!

The scanned in stuff i talked about the other day.
And another digi thing i found in the sketch book folder and totally forgot about.

waddup christine! damn missed ur updates, but glad to see u kicking and well!

The last self portrait looks awesome, really like that soft subtle light and forms captured in that post, most excellente! the pencils are looking good too especially the 4th portrait down of the guy, keep working on them lines and values, some of the lines in ur pencil work seem a tad heavy and try to build up ur values so that if need be u can erase (or I like to consider it painting with the kneaded eraser) for gradual tonal shifts

Keep up the good work, the anatomy studies are looking great as well!!

Really nice values and rendering there and I like that you kept the hair very simple.

Hey, not sure how I missed you on here but at least I know where this is now so I can watch you improve. I still can't believe you have such a huge sketchbook in such a short space of time, that what I call dedication and I suddenly feel really lazy.

Keep up the hard work, its really paying off and I'm looking forward to your next update.

snootchy - you almost had it! thank you for the encouraging words, they always help get me do some extra drawing. this time i took extra notice of your advice, and tried just that; i never was fond of painting with the kneaded eraser as you say, because i can never get that white to look..white. i need to control it better!

Icecold - nah, you don't have to paul. i still can't help myself and colourpick a few tones in the beginning. glad the lighting source-rendering and anatomy came out better this time.

Emil_ - thank you emil! i wasn't sure about the hair, but then i remembered on what i wanted the viewer to concentrate on, ant it was the face, not the hair.

[ste] - Small world, isn't it? Sometimes, situations really makes it feel like that.
Huge sketchbook? Mm and here i was thinking i should have reached 40-45 already. I actually feel lazy!
Seeing someone improve in art is really awesome, and motivating! Particularly if you like that person's style and actually came to know him better.
Looking forward to see you improve too!

Drawing again when i shouldn't be, but ahh well, at least i'm enjoying it!

Perspective stuff really made me relax, and then those heads added up some joy. Drew a lot of heads on this song, it's really nice keeping the pencil pressure light
    and the rhythm steady heh.
Had to reinstall my windows, so i was without a tablet right when i was in the mood for some digital drawing! So last one's done in paint with the mouse, no ref.

Wonderful studies Cristina! Perspective work seems dead on, and I'm pleased you enjoyed it
I and actually really dig the paining, very impressive, and I doubt I could do that without a tablet~!

    Keep it up m'dear!

    Heya Cristina,

Self-portrait looks good. Looks like the photo.

I think you may be getting a little bit of the 'Myspace Effect' though...

If you have Loomis' 'Creative Illustration', it has some good points on using photography
for illustration/painting (which Loomis was a big fan of). Chapter 4 has a section on how
the camera distorts. You may find its better to take a hi-res photo a bit of distance, then
crop down to the face. If you fill the whole picture with your face, chances are the camera
is too close and you get a fun-house-mirror effect.

Bridgman and perspective studies look real good. Nice and clean. The biggest thing that
helped me get an inkling of what Bridgman is about (although he's still mysterious to me)
was getting some books of Art Models. The CD/DVD of images that comes with them lets
you take a single pose and rotate it 360 degrees. I haven't found anything like it to really
give you a sense of what the shapes and tendencies of the human form are. Well...except
maybe Kevin Chen's work...also there's the ImagineFX book on anatomy...I just downloaded
    that, it looks pretty hot.

On your character designs: You may find it helps a lot to first work out a simple 3D form of
the person and their pose before adding details. Literally a mannequin to hang the clothes
    (and hair, and anatomy) onto.

    Keep up the good work!

Also I like the old name being back I'd also accept Delphine Noir or Black Dolphin...

sketchbook...a kitten dies every time you don't comment

“When forced to work within a strict framework,
the imagination is taxed to its utmost – and will
produce its richest ideas. Given total freedom,
the work is likely to sprawl.”

    - TS Eliot
