I like those little still life paintings, always found them fascinating, not the "basket full of apples" stuff. Yeah, I like small fomat paintings. All this anatomy and gesture stuff, there can never be enough of those. Lots of variety in your sketchbook.

Great work! The paintings look very accurate in color, value, and the
brushwork is very deft. Perfect on the technical side .

Keep up your drawing and studies of form. Really, again, try to improve
your control and confidence in your lines. Take your time, draw from
the shoulder (not the wrist), and do some line exercises if you have to.

    ---

I wold advise you to avoid posemaniacs. The simple reason is that it is
too unnatural. Believe me, I used posemaniacs extensively for a while.

You will get a lot more value out of a book/CD of photographs of art
    models
, or downloading poses, photos of dancers or athletes can be
useful (although time-consuming to collect ).

The other problem with posemaniacs is the timer. Believe it or not, the
way to get faster is to go slower.

Once you are confident and can cleanly analyze the pose and execute your
lines, you will be able to do it quickly. There just isn't that much to do, most
of the time is wasted just fumbling around.

    ---

Couple tips on proportion, direction, foreshortening.

To judge the direction (of a face, for example)

Keep an eye out for points of reference that are symmetrical.

For example: corners of the eyes, the mouth, the jaw, etc. A line drawn
between them must be perpendicular to the centerline of the form, like
the horizontal line of a cross.

Usually you can find the vertical axis easily enough (for example, in a face,
from the center of the brow down to the center of the chin). The only other
(and most confusing) element is depth. That you just have learn .

in complex poses: Look at the joints (and other bony landmarks).

If you are intimately familiar with the shape of the joints and the judgement of
foreshortening, you can tell the direction of an arm or a leg or a torso
just like the direction of a face.

Drawing lots of cylinders / cubes at many angles will help foreshortening and
    directionality to be instinctive.

    ---

Keep it up, Cristina, you are doing great!

this sketchbook has come so far there's so much improvement on your studies and paintings, love your self portrait from post #1055 very nice lighting that still life from post #1088 is great, really like the way you constructed it and the colors look good too, the book is a bit off though, it doesn't draw back to it's vanishing point as it should. great photo study of that chick in post #1090 i see you made her a little fleshier than the original and i really like the way you painted the branches & leaves of the tree in. the environment studies look real good and your pose maniac's have taken a huge leap keep them coming

    Hi Matey

just swung by to to say hi and thanks for posting all the stuff, I feel inspired by some of it and I really liked the gesture drawings. You could do with attacking the girl with the orange scarf thing and the naked but again you havnt quite nailed it yet, but dont despair I have very confidence that you will.

all the very best to you, and thanks again for posting.

Finished my first medicine year. Thought it would never come to a summer vacation..

Looking at my art now is like looking at someone else's art..sad but true, all the strokes look new to me.
I have barely drawn over the past year, 10drawings/sketches tops.

The only thing i can brag with is this, a pencil drawing done on a wall.

Good to see you all again.

You're back! I know how you feel about looking at your work and thinking, "I actually did that?" Objectively though I think the break has done at least a little good. Your sketches look like you're leaving some of your built in stylization behind.

Joe777k7 i had the determination coming from everywhere, otherwise i don't think i would have finished it either, got a bit bored half way through. i would have finished it..eventually..in a few chunks, but i did it in 3 days one after the other thanks to the extra motivation
Pixie i am not sure i understood what you meant. Are you referring to some old bad habits of mine? I left them behind or..

Installed a new scanner and changed the DPI to 400, set to grayscale. Love the vibrant result!

My my my, i honestly thought i'd never see another post from you in this thread ever again. I'm super glad that you're back, but you deserve a spank Cristina!
Some of us were worried you know? A year and not a single post "i'm alive, don't worry any bear did not eat me alive" ! How could you !

Those latest thumbnails are indeed more mature, maybe this break did clear your mind in certain ways. Hope you'll stay with us now, will you?

Now don't be cold as ice, Icecold it wasn't intentionally at all! At some point I forgot completely of the existence of this site. Heck! I forgot even that I have the ability to draw!
On the other hand, I thought I have completely forgotten to draw! And instead, I find myself considering that I have gotten better, now that's a pleasant surprise..

For a while I will draw again, but at the beginning of august, I will gradually start drawing less, and then I think at some point go missing again. It is inevitable, with all the demands medicine has.

For the moment, I find myself interested more in landscape studies. Any tips, drawing ideas, projects, etc would be really appreciated! I feel like I neglected this subject in the past so much, that now it is coming back at me. If with figures I have a somewhat idea of popular books like bammes, loomis, hogarth etc, with envos and co. i have none right now.

Whoa nice to have you updating again!
Lovely landscape thumbs really nice, I might try those myself for some reason I always avoided doing landscapes with pencils I guess too intimidating but you made it look so simple and quick.

Your art overall looks better and considering you have been gone for a year surprises me, have you been drawing and painting in your dreams? if that is possible we can get better twice as fast!

Regarding the portfolio, the pink girl is a nice study but I would not put studies as part of a portfolio unless it states studies/sketches I would rather put a nice landscape painting that you have there as the main page painting.

do some more of those environments thumbnails they are sweet!

    Cheers!

Danny_K thanks for the input, i'll be sure to paint a decent landscape or a more complex drawing with characters and background, and then add it as the first page. landscape thumbs i wanna do more, though i'm not finding any inspirational landscapes right now. i don't feel like drawing them, though i am starting to feel the mood of figure drawing again

miycko - haha i don't remember exactly how it came to it myself, though it was a strange case, i'm sure of it. skills neah, much like need. with photoshop not installed i needed to find a solution. thanks micky!

photoshop is back and running, glad i saved my brushes so now all i had to do is load them.
tried a few figure sketches to see how working with a tablet feels again.

didn't construct as much as i wanted to, got over excited in the process xD
    will do better next time
