Question Best automatic UV unwrapping plugin for 3ds Max / Maya?

Anyone know what is currently the best automatic UV unwrapping plugin for 3ds Max / Maya, and why? I've heard of Unwrella 2 but is that the best? I'm especially interested in one that works well for UV unwrapping human faces and bodies. Any recommendations or experiences? Thanks.

Sigh, for pete's sake.. In the spirit of being helpful i checked out the video on their website. From what i gather it looks a hair more convenient than the pelt mapping tools in max, in combination with the other vanilla unwrapping tools included in max. The end result is a different matter tho, i see wasted uv space abound, with no regard for pixel density. I'd still say you'd be better off learning to unwrap using the tools in max, rather than relying on quick fix magic solutions.

And seriously? There's a TRIAL of the software available on the site, download it and try it out yourself. Also, in the time between your threads you could have learned to unwrap properly and then some.

I use Unfold 3D and it works well for me. It unwraps things well, but often leaves some wasted space, so I have to make final adjustments in Max

until models start getting into higher numbers, like 40-50k polys and higher, auto-unwrap stuff will have a hard time "recognizing" what polys represent in 3d space. Quick solution- gotta agree w/ ye' olde pen-beard slash and others and say that you need to DIY.

Just learn the included tools, there are some good shortcut apps out there, but unless you lay it out yourself mainly it won't be as efficient.

Maya's new unwrapping tools aren't that bad. I think that when doing low poly models, its imperative to unwrap by hand. There are some video tutorials out there on unwrapping higher poly stuff, though I have lost the links long ago.

Roadkill works well. Buggy, but it'll do in a pinch. Plus it's free.
