    For the Kingdom

HI GUYS, SCROLL ALL THE WAY DOWN FOR THE HI-RES SCANS OF THIS PIECE! THANKS.

    -------

Hi Guys, i'm new to this site so bear with me.

I've been drawing since i could barely walk but haven't really been true to my passion -life got in the way. I grew up reading DC but love a lot of Marvel characters as well. I'm a big fan of Alex Ross (see tribute piece below) and still enjoy the occasional read. I'm also a film, photography, and World War II buff. My interests now lie more in 'photoreal' illustration with particular emphasis on the work of master film poster artists like Drew Struzan, Bob Peak and Richard Amsel -perhaps because their work combines two of my passions.

Anyhow, over the last 20 odd years, i've done a number of pieces that i am proud of and have finally decided to do two things: 1) share them and 2) devote serious time and energy towards exploring this part of me again. So, here goes nothing!

(Excerpt from wordpress journal) ... "this piece I did about 10 years ago, a couple of months after Mark Waid and Alex Ross’s KINGDOM COME came out. A real big fan of Ross’s art, I loved the way he did the covers for the first three books of this classic series. The way he decided to pose all major characters in one shot, as if in a studio, added more depth to already incredible artwork. It’s as if they all decided to take time out from their busy “superhero” lives to pose for one iconic photo op. It just made the whole piece come alive."

Thanks Ivy. Wish i could say that the last 10 years sharpened my skills but i cant! -Life and all its trappings got in the way. But, I'd like to think I'm a quick study so we'll see...
Yes, i did this w/ pen and ink. Did pencils on standard-sized warm press illustration board and then did detail work for a month (2-3 hours/day tops).

Nice, I have always admired the patience that it takes creating a piece so detailed (and probably large?). I would love to see some of your current pieces!

Thanks guys! Appreciate the kind words.

Eric: I'm sure i have the original scan here somewhere. I had a couple of more pieces i did through the years but termites got to them when i accidentally stored them in a damp closet!

Linguini: I'm currently doing a tribute piece to the waning art of movie poster illustration, and since my favorite movie poster artist is Drew Struzan, I'm doing it in his style. Fee free to visit my Wordpress page for updates on that, and join a Facebook page i created for the movie poster enthusiasts.
