the 8 rainforest tribes
At the moment I am working on a school project called "The 8 rainforest tribes".. and I need to design 2 characters! One male, one female.
we got 8 groups of people working on this, and each group has got a diferent totem animal.
My group: Howler monkey!
So.. I started doing some thumbnails and then I made some with a little bit more detail.
the final image should be a compostition of the 2 characters, digital painted in photoshop.
The next thing I am going to do is look for good pose for both (with better anatomy and silhouet)
The intention is that the totem animal can be recognized... but I'm still figuring out how I am going to do that.
I'll show you some of my first ideas.. Critics and coments are welcome ofcourse!

first off: great start. these are really good studies. you show a pretty wide range of styles in each sketch, which is something i struggle with, so good job!
the first thing i noticed about howler monkeys on google is the fur. you did a pretty good job of integrating that with the male studies, but what about the females? and you could even include some indication in the accessories of these characters the howler monkey's long limbs.
that's my two cents for now. i can't wait to see what you want to do for pose

Hey lalali, thx for the reply! You are right about the fur, I'll keep it in mind for my final sketch!
I have been working some more on the pose now, so feel free to give any comments or suggestions.

Lots of interesting details. But, for the poses: rethink how their backs are looking.
Yes, yes, they are facing forward, but the curvature of their backs shape their torsos too. These people are living in the jungle hunting by sneaking around in the under-vegetation. Either they're curved into a more hunched position or their backs would need a bit more bend in them. If you look at a person just standing next to you by the bus stop, their backs aren't straight as arrows. They curve with the lover back creating an "S" shape together with the ass.

Here is one of the new sketches.. but I'll see what I can do about the back when I start the painting!
