    Lol.. the purple pants are awesome!! =)

    They take away a lot from his face, which you've added a lot of character too.. Maybe try to bring some more focus back to his face with a helmut or at least a lighter value or more interesting colour than in the pants. Those pants! =)

    Recent post is looking good, fun to see all of the explorations in his outfit I think his thighs might not be quite the same size though this may be a trick of the eye (wow, what a rhyme)

    How's your head man? Are you still feeling the new year? ahah!

    Awesome new paintings man, good to see your improvement coming along
    Sorry I haven't commented in a while; I've been sick / out of town.
    Keep up the great stuff; I'll be checking back in a day or two.

    hi snake!
    been a long time since I looked here. i have lots of thing on my head lately, hope i'll get more time soon. anyway. I'm not a big fan of correcting old works. I think that you will learn more if you simply repaint it from the beginning. but I understand that you can have simply lack of time. If so, try doing some limitted pallete sududies, fast gestures with use two or three colours, its fun, and good exercise. my best wishes (maybe a bit late) in new year, cheers.

    shiNIN;
    I was referencing the head of this last digital and I was doing his lower part from
    imagination, which gave me a more serious struggle than I thought. Maybe I am
    just not ready for this level yet. I was not aiming to change much on his face
    expression, so it looks a bit stiff. 8 heads checked, maybe it seems different but,
    I have checked the 8 head rule and he fits exactly, proportions should be on their
    place. However I was not going fully for the ultra realistic, so I guess it does not
    matter really. Doom 3 Lost Soul is coming to your sketchbook soon, I know, so
    I will visiting you pretty soon. Thank you for being with me lately and helping me
    all the time.

    ezekrialase;
    You are right, there are no hands, I did not painted them yet, however I have
    already look up for some references from which I will paint them. Imaginary
    hands are still way too much for me. Thank you for being my supporter.

    catukas;
    I wish you a happy new year too Cätlyn. You got me concerned, cause you
    ain’t updating lately. Looks like more of them are complaining about the purple
    striped pants, and that just signalizes that I will have to make them to be some
    different color. Thank you for brightening up my dark day.

    Devastacio;
    Hello partner. Hope that all our headaches are gone after three days from new year,
    and that we are all fully work capable. I have noted and registered all the flaws that
    you mentioned about the ‘beast tamer’ , I will try to fix up those things on my next
    steps on him. I appreciate your detailed review, just as always, that just shows the
    dedication that you put in for helping me. You are also think that the purple stripes do
    not fit? But I was just so liking them on him, cause he is a kind of a circus beast tamer.
    Boots ain’t finished yet, will try to highlight them, so the form could be fully visible.
    Merci beaucoup.

    Rafid;
    The muscular man is back, and I was just painting some more details on
    him out of boredom. Glad that you like the modifications on him.
    Thank you very much.

    alexson;
    I am surrounded with good friends and I get some very good
    feedbacks daily, I think that I just cannot ask for anything more better.
    You are very welcome in my sketchbook, you just risen my morale by
    a few notch with visiting and posting a comment here. I am
    thankful, and as a sign of appreciation I will visit your sketchbook
    very soon and will try to follow your work.

    NickyBeats;
    I think that your opinion about me is just overrating my actual qualities, buy hey, it means
    much to me if you feel like that and it makes me walk so proud with my head high.
    Your advices mean gold to me, and every bit of your constructive criticism is pushing
    me just a bit closer to my goal. Looks like everyone agrees with one fact at this latest
    painting of mine, and that is about his purple pants, I will try to change it.
    Thank you for everything that you put together in your reply, and as you said,
    we are officially great friends now. Cheers.

    Brahimpag;
    Hello my friend, I wish you a welcome to my house.
    Hope you like what you see, and I hope that you will visit this
    house of horror sometime again in the future.

    McClain;
    Interesting thing that I have never tried to do an environmental painting.
    Guess that I was just always more attracted to character based drawings and
    paintings. I know that an artist should be all rounded, so I guess I will try to
    do some environmental designs in the future. Hey, our art journey is long, so
    there will be time for everything I guess.
    Thank you for supporting me.

    Marin;
    The character on the painting is almost at the same value level as the background is,
    and the same color. You are right, I should increase the contrast a bit on the character
    and should decrease on the background at the same time. Or, I could change the entire
    background, which is always possible, cause it is on a total different layer.
    Thank you very much for your input and for your encouragement.

    mrd33ds;
    Hey there cutie pie, haha, that remind me on Arnie from the movie ‘Running Man’.
    I have saved your suggestions about the pants in my head, and will implement it
    in the project when I will be back on it again. Throwing up from partying, haha that
    is a good one also. Huuurrr, will construct some interesting additions on this one for
    sure. Thank you for your ideas, I will try to take all in consideration. Your help
    is always very appreciated.

    Sivonja;
    I understand, you do not like how I connected the upper body and the lower body,
    you do not like the hip area. The whole problem is that it’s all from imagination,
    so I struggling with bringing all this to a realistic level. Anyway, thank you very
    much for the advices, especially the “love carpet” part, thank you for the kind
    words and for supporting me. We will be in contact for sure, and keep rocking
    those horsemen paintings for the time being.

    Silwynar;
    Hey dude, long time no see. You have scared me with your disappearance,
    I told you that in your sketchbook. Bizarre murder cases appeared in Racoon city,
    or something like that, you know what I mean...
    Anyway I am so glad that you are here now, and that you liked my latest postings.
    Thank you.

    equilerex;
    I was just discussing with Marin about the different background, maybe I will
    change it in the end. Hangover passed right on the second day of this year thank
    God. Hope that you are also feeling well, and that you are working with full power.
    Thank you for visiting again, it is just a great thing to work in a team with you.

    oma;
    Ahhh, I am so glad that someone sees that last painting without any flaws,
    hahaha, thank you, thank you, thank you. After all you are the oil painting
    master and I believe to your judgments. I understand everything about not
    being sober enough for doing a review, been there, done that. Cheerz.

    Kungfoowiz;
    And you are the one against the many, who dislikes the purple pant.
    I will found two clans; one for the purple pants supporters and one
    against. Just joking. Good advice about putting something on the
    guy’s head. Will think about it. However, if I put something on his
    head, then it will be covering his beautiful shiny baldness. Buhuhu,
    it is so hard for me to say good bye to his cute head.
    Thank you for the advices and for the support.

    Rafid;
    Hello again, yea yea I know it is really about time
    for me to make an update, so here it goes below.
    Thank you for reminding me.

    Kiwi;
    His legs ain’t the same indeed. I messed up some proportions, cause
    they were done out of imagination, however I am looking up for some
    muscled body builder legs out there, to improve the look.
    My head is ok now, no alcohol since new year and everything got
    back to a better state. Thank you for your concern and for your words
    of encouragement. Huh, I just love to see that birdy thing in my sketchbook.
    What kind of a bird is that on your avatar if I may ask?

    Kfeeras;
    Hey, Antonio, glad to see a new member posting a reply to my work, I
    am mega excited, thank you very much, thanks for the words of encouragement,
    I will surely return the favor.
    Ti govoris i ovaj jezik?

    Alice;
    Hello and welcome, I am more than thankful for your
    reply here. Will visit you in a short while.

    Bethany;
    Hello my good long time supporter. Thank you for the advices and for
    pointing out some mistakes on my last painting. I will surely try to apply
    the things that you have suggested on my next steps on the painting.
    Many thanks to you. Will try to visit and post some comment on your
    latest self portrait as soon as I will be able.

    jeremygordon;
    Thank you for your input, support and encouragement.
    Hope that you feeling better now.

    Ramalooke;
    hello Ramalooke, I noticed that you were away for a while, but you are back
    now, and I am glad about it. I totally agree with you on the ‘not correcting old works’
    philosophy. Thank you for the advices that you gave me and for the wishes. Hope
    you will also update pretty soon.

    Devastacio;
    haha, that just do not looks like Mr. Gibson on the drawing, but thank you for
    the time that you put in for reminding me about my updates. By the way, you
    should train hand anatomy and studies hahaha.
    I have ideas, what to draw and to paint, I just get distracted sometimes or I
    am just simply lazy enough, for not to do anything about art.
    Thank you for the link collection, now you just motivated me to try to play
    ‘Dead Space’ cause it looks amazing on the video that you provided above.
    So, here are some updates finally, sorry for not doing them earlier.

    Nice stuff, man. Thanks alot for the kind words you left in my SB it really made my day. If I could point something out on the muscle dude in chains I think you could add some more bulk to his serratus anterior a.k.a. batwings. I painted some to show what I mean, I hope you don't mind.

    IMO. that area does alot to convey "hulk" like body type.
    You asked me over in my SB about skintones etc. I'ts funny you did because I think that is one of my weakest areas, I am studying it alot atm to try to understand it. But something that I read about and noticed in old masters works is the importance of Sub Surface Scattering. This is something we did alot when I was studying 3D modelling and texturing in my old school. When a light impacts a opaque surface, such as skin. It effects the blood underneath and makes it appear as if it glows, like when you put your hand up against a bright light.
    This mini tuturial from someone on DA shows it better.

    It's the redness that occurs between lights and darks like in the picture that helps alot to give a feeling of flesh.

    I'm not 100% comfortable giving advice on this because I am trying to learn it myself, but I'm just sharing what I have noticed.
    Anyhoo, keep up the good work, man. I look forward to seeing more stuff!

    Maybe I wasn't clear, I meant he's 8 heads tall and I find it too much for him. It's just an opinion, not a strict crit from my inner critic.

    I tried to draw different head doodles myself and it's damn hard... But I will used to it...
    Yay, vertebrae! I draw them nowadays too but never precisely enough... Normal people don't need it so much but I do, I will explain in my sb.

    Portrait: she needs a more defined nose and mouth and it's very strange her mascara and hair is black but the face has no darker parts.
    Her eyes are too close together to be pretty, maybe it's not impossible if someone has close eyes and too much mascara used without skill, but it's not pretty.
    Too vague drawing to get more crits from me but it still has some character or feeling or whatnot, I'd consider playing with her more. I dig the red in her hair.

    alexson: darker areas usually are more saturated, not less, it's true for the skin sphere example thing in the minitutorial as well (less saturated works as well sometimes but I usually use the more common "darker are more saturated" approach).

    well.. there allways are flaws in like every drawing u make.. we aint computers afterall and that makes a drawing attractive for me.. if the flaws fit in the composition or the painting style.. or aint even bugging the viewer its a good drawing painting imo ... and yea i liked that painting u made.. i and i even more like the steps u made.. and the progress ur showing to us..

    and about ur last 50min digital painting.. try not to focus on details that fast.. and use bigger strokes.. will make ur digitals a lot faster and better to see the bigger picture of it.

    keep the study's up .

    and alexson cheers for that comment.. that was helpfull

    You criticized the thirds in devastacio's blog but you don't use it either - not like it would be wrong, you know my opinion about it. Variety in faces are partially because faces don't follow this "rule".
    But her mouth should be higher.

    I was motivated to do an overpaint for fun, not "it's the right way to do things", I can't really draw faces anyway
    5 minutes, I'm in good shape for something like this
    Hopefully you don't mind.

    {you said to devastacio to draw faces viewed from different angles and now you drew your 2 last detailed figure head on... you need to learn a lot about being a great and consistent critic, little grasshopper... *sighs and pats LtPlissken's head*

    Hmmm... It's a nice, cheerful sketchbook, I have great time here. Throw me a beer and I may consider to be gentle with you. I'm so totally not sure you don't like rough love instead, though... Anyway, just throw me that beer even if it's not a good Belgian one I prefer}

    gastritis and stomatitis?? oh snap... those don't sound too good-- in fact, i had to google stomatitis just now haha xD~ you're progressing mr. plissken! study more heads~ the ones from imagination seem a bit skewed vertically and tend to look a bit elongated-- but i shouldn't be saying anything cuz i suck at heads too :o

    Hey mate. Seems like you've been going through a period of lag too. I think it's the January blues

    But anyways, keep pushing through it and I'm sure you'll get back into it.
    Hope to see more soon

    Keep doing those studies. Throw in some perspective studies too, like drawing boxes freehand, until you nail it .

    Hello there,

    LOL you ought to be shot! of course thats not mr Gibson, thats a Mercenary! hehe need hand studies anyway. will have to wait till i learn it first btw 'Dead Space' is a really cool game. I played it a lot but not really my tase if you ask me. im not really fond of 'sci-fi, alien, space' stuff. but if you haven't played 'FEAR' and 'FEAR 2' play it because they are simply awesome.

    About the new updates, I have nothing much to say about the referenced sketches. they look okay. buts its great that you do reference stuff because i think its really necessary when you draw heads from your imagination.

    About the sketches from your imagination, i like the em but knowing your capacity, these are not enough at all. you should try to use the knowledge gained from the lessons. im not saying they are bad, im simply trying to say that, you should do better stuff than these mate and you can. no excuse!

    If you asking my opinion about the beast-tamers pants, go for the 2nd from left. muted purple looks better, since you seem to like that color. anyway purple is considered the most exotic color in the palette. since the beast tamer is kind of a exotic character, itll suit him. just my opinion.

    About the anatomy and head studies; Good that you are doing this too. if you start to do it seriously than this, youll realize how hard it is to do a proper looking head from the imagination. im struggling badly with it right now but gonna hit the loomis books and find a solution. I say draw more and more of these mate. try to draw a one set of heads in each update.

    I like the portrait but you are also struggling here with facial feature placements. I see shiNIN has teared you apart with his crits ! lol i like it. he did a really nice job in the overpaint. anyway its seems to me we both need to draw more heads. since we work as a team lets do it till we get it right shall we? why don't we dedicate this coming week just to draw heads and facial features properly. i think itll be rewarding.

    well, time to do some serious work mate. Time is running out. No lazy excuses are allowed now.

    cool update! lots of good stuff, the portrait's my favorite!
    on the constructive side, only thing that bugs me are the pants variations - they are too vibrant to look real. Perhaps play with the blendmode and opacity of the color layer or desaturate it a bit?

    I see those pants still cause disturbance here They looked like totally crazy unserious things to me from the beginning Maybe I'd give him hot pink ones and say everyone should shut up, of course just if I would be in a more asocial state I'm usually are...
    But some normal crit... There's that wonderful chain around him (I like chains as well, not just skulls and sexy babes with moderate sized boobs) and I barely see it. It definitely needs some more intense highlights, it's merged with his body.
    One day I may put effort into looking at that pic and giving more crits but this is for now.

    devastacio: I'm biologically a she, maybe you wish to know it. I don't care, it's too bad English have those gendered pronouns, my language hasn't and I consider myself an androgyne. I never was a typical girl and I guess it won't ever change.

    I"ll just join the others to say, good job and keep up with those studies and sketches.
    Maybe you should try to make some more anatomy studies concentrated on each body part, hand, head, and etc.
    When you draw humans you just gotta make the anatomy correct on a reflex level or else you"ll find yourself always checking your own hand to see how it supposed to look at each gesture.

    Alex.
