    Rocky road to KL.

Some textural work and a very fast Obama sketch.

    And as for the photos:

These snaps are from the bus trip and arriving back in Kuala Lumpur after two days in Melacca. It was bucketing down as only the tropics can, so at least it wasn't humid anymore!

We checked back into our hotel and got an upgraded room. Of course we later discovered that our luggage had been pilfered in lock-up, so for future reference, the Furama is great, but put your stuff in the safe!

Next it was off to gawk at the Petronas Towers, which were well worth the visit, except inside it was just another mall before Christmas, really.

    Life. Like.

For the first time in years I'm back at regular life drawing class and it's GREAT.

If you're in Sydney, swing by!

    And the photos:

Very impressive structures and getting lost in the cloud only added to the scale. Great stuff.

I've got a bunch more snaps of the towers, but I won't fall into that trap right, so they'll get posted in the future.

Great photography, looks like fun places to travel too. I notice your ink gesture like drawing as tighten up more as your progress through the sketchbook.

Make a sketchbook happy, feed it a tip to improve!

    Leaving KL and other weirdness

Here are some more life drawing snaps and the last shots of KL

The retarded Christmas stampede, getting a fishy foot treatment and one last look around before leaving town, heading for Sydney. Note that none of these were edited in Photoshop or similar programs, the sky actually looked like that!

    Life drawing and bright sun.

Here's some work documentation. That painting was done in waaaay too much sunlight, so the end result was a very flat, high-contrast affair. So we learn...

    Coverage

Here is the latest cover I did for Something Wicked magazine, a great little independent Sci-fi and horror monthly. Here's the artist Q&A and below is a breakdown of my process, which developed as thumbnails and then into the finished product. The idea was initially for a wide gatefold and a quarter crop of that to be used for the cover, but some thoughtful arrangement by Joe, the editor, led to the more dynamic final product.

    Running out of road.

Another quick photoshop piece and photos taken at Wildebeest Kuil outside of Kimberley in the Northern Cape. This is a site of historical significance, as a lot of rockcarvings litter the site.

My queue of work's getting short, I'll have to start digitizing again!

Thanks man, appreciate the good word. The skyscrapers are the Petronas Towers in Kuala Lumpur, they were the tallest on the planet for a while in the late nineties and feature prominently in the film Entrapment.

An uncharacteristic fantasy thing for me, but was fun.
