I've never put together a portfolio, but I would think that life drawings as well as more complete drawings with a composition (such as a still life) would be good examples.

well, i cant really talk from experience as i dont have a portfolio as such either. However the idea im working off is this.

Write down a checklist of every good artistic 'thing' you can think of.

    ie

    *contrast
    *good shading
    *able to do digital
    *good perspective

especially stuff relevant to your course/job.

then try to fit every single thing on your list into about 10-15 artworks.

thats what im doing, i may be going about it wrong, but its keeping me focused and stimulated and most importantly working towards a set goal.

    Good luck dude!

Oh and as for how to present it, get one of those big black art 'carry cases', some have room on the inside for a resume/bio and business card and you can make them pretty professional.

    peace

    Sup K-Nap,

You're prolly gonna send your 'folio to SCAD like I did, so I'll tell ya how I did it.

First go find your art teachers at school and get them to help you, they're good at showing what you did best on all those class projects you hated doing. If you've done any work for the school you're in (school directory illustrations, rally buttons, works for teachers, ect.), or any other organizations you're gonna want to show that as well. Last show the work you were really passionate about, like forum competitions and marker practice. And let it be obviouse or labled what each piece is.

Just be carefull, I almoast got denied the schollarship 'cause I had ONE drawing of a robotic dragon. It was crappy and unorigional, I just wasn't carefull when selecting it ... I thought about how many damn dragons they must've seen in their daily 'folio screens.

haha, sammy, your not the only one that hated doing those projects? I hated them also. I never did good on any of them, probably because i hated them. Also, did you ever notice that the kids that had no artistic talent did better on those projects then the kids that did have talent. Its crazy.
