    well, valve is the first thing to come to my head. if you watch team fortress 2 the visual style is pretty similar. nice work.

    I love 4-5 pieces the most. I like the way you can handle several styles, I think that's very important to have in a concept artist. Personally though, i think most of your works have a certain cartoony "look" to them. Maybe you should balance the portfolio with more realistic looking stuff, just in case. Keep it up!

    I like yor stuff a lot, i hope you will get job soon!

    Few things: In white, black and red pictures i would like to see more complex forms. Of then best robotic/cybernetic forms are juxtaposing of bigger forms surrounding small little details forms, right now your robots have only bigger forms and no smaller to make those really good looking. It has hard thing to learn, (trying to do it myself) maybe looking björn stuff gives you idea what i am trying to explain:

    Okay. let's get this out of the way, awesome work!

    Now, as far as portfolios go, here is what I can suggest:

    If possible, have a consistent formatting to tie the overall feel of the work, even if it changes up stylistically. Right now, if this is how you present your portfolio, it feels like a thrown together collection of work, great work but thrown together. Try to sell your portfolio as a whole package, not a la mode.

    Next, take in to consideration, if you aren't already, the order in which your work is displayed. Start strong and end strong.

    Dynamics- I like your bike idea, but the profile isn't really helping demonstrate your capacity to visually interpret a concept to full realization. 3/4 view with some one-point perspective could be an easy solution.

    Characters: All of them have a nice overall pop, however I would vary up some characteristics a little more. For example, every biped seems to have crazy thin ankles or chicken legs.

    Anyways, those are a few things off the top of my head. Great work and I hope you can pull it all together and land a job.

    Hey,

    I've worked as an artist in the game industry and I'll do my best to offer you some feedback you may be able to use.

    First off, the work is really nice. Your talent for drawing and design is obvious and IMHO ranks well within the bounds of what the industry looks for. As said, I've worked for 10 years full time in this and I could learn a thing or two from you. Some specific things you could do that might help you are.

    1. Even if you're applying for a concept art position, it helps to show some 3D or in-game work if an in-house position is what you're looking for. This is a double edged sword because on one hand it will tell the employer that you are willing to do other work which is both good and bad in my opinion. If your true passion is ONLY concept work, that will be a problem in the long run, but I can say with no exceptions that all the concept artists I've worked with in the studios including myself always pitch in and do things outside of that role when the game needs it and showing some of that kind of thing will help your chances big time. It's really just a matter of how fast you want things to go in my opinion. If you just want to get your start and want an in-house job, showing game art of any kind will likely speed up the process and then you can work towards going to high concept art as much as possible once you're there. It will affect their view on you though, so I would advise to be honest with yourself about how happy you would truly be doing say... setting up UV's or making a character model if needed. Some people hate and won't go that route even if it means another artist gets the job. I understand that on many levels and there are rare and coveted concept only positions but I don't need to bring the negative and obvious "there are lots of people going for the same job" talk. Your talent will overcome that with these and the right approach.

    2. I would agree that maybe it might help to broaden out even more. The work presented here is very pro looking and great but it could benefit from even more diversity like the other artists were commenting here. A good example would be that maybe include a sketchbook (that I'm sure you have) area of the site showing life studies and some sketches of ideas for things as well as more tech stuff.

    Anyhow... I can't say enough how nice I think these are and I'm sure that with your talent you'll make a good splash with the right tweaking. I would be happy to talk with you through e-mail and offer some more specific questions about companies I think you may find some success as an applicant for. Cool work.     Hey Den,

    As I was leaving Columbus last Spring I spoke to Ron Tardino who told me that, while the top 5 or 6 graduating CCAD would normally walk into jobs, things at that time were especially tough. I'd say things might even be tougher now and for a while yet.

    I wonder if you've been able to do much networking? I think I remember you in the CCAD vs. SVA challenge along with Kenji who's worked at a couple places now.

    I think jobs will be easier to find, even if it takes awhile as the recession phases out. At least it sounds like those already in the biz like your stuff. Have you looked at Canada at all? Good Luck.

    I like the fact that you have a slightly more cartoon approach than most concept artists, makes you stand out IMO.

    Good looking work here. Nice range of style and execution. I believe it was mentioned before but having an over all design feel to the presentation of your portfolio I think would help out a lot when showing it off to potential employers.

    Hey great stuff! Good range, quality, etc. RED has an Ashley Wood type feel to it, but it's still distinctly yours. I would be careful with COMBAT. I was interested most in this piece and I noted that his skirt is a bit short. The pose is a little 'hip heavy' if that makes any sense. Keep it up though!

    i agree with everyone so far
    you've got a solid portfolio here. but i must say.. there are a couple things that jump out at me as familiar... a little too similar to the inspiration if you know what i mean.
    heh, i think you know which ones im talking about.
    aside from those 2 or 3 things; solid portfolio. one of the best i've seen straight out of school.
    just give it time.
    oh, and don't be afraid to move!! i have no idea what companies there are in chicago, but if there aren't any, pack up and go where the jobs are. 7 years ago i took a chance and moved to LA from dallas: it was the best move i've ever made.

    You have a very captivating and flowing style. I what brings out your style even more is your color choice. Each piece is fantastic!! I am in love with all of them!

    You have some very creative concepts too. Your robots are some of my favorite.

    As for where you could land a job? I think a company would be insane to not accept you. Your robot police squad made me think of Psychonauts while some of your other concepts reminded me of Team Fortress.

    I think it's safe to say you have a very "friendly" style: something that can appear to be child-friendly but deep down it has nothing to do with it's outside appearance. I love your work!
