Angel wings tattoo with a touch of spine
Haven't had time to draw for a looong time, but a friend of mine is going to get a large tattoo on her back, wanted me to draw an idea of hers to check how it's going to look.
A spine in the middle where the broken wings are connected. Have absolutely no idea how angel anatomy is, but I went for a reverse bird wing. As for the "broken" part I fail. As there is only bones on the outer parts of the wings, and skin on the rest, it's quite difficult to create a broken look, apart from making the feathers look rough.
So I need help with the anatomy part, and ideas on how to make it look more... "angel of despair".
I simply drew one wing and mirrored in PS since I'm lazy.
Uh, no option do change the size of the picture on this forum..? Sorry anyway.
Edit: Man I just scanned this, and I am seeing faces and people in the spine, scary shit.

You could make the wings look more "broken" by ruffling the feathers just a tad more, making them have a less smooth shape (like if you stroke a feather the wrong way, how all the little fibers separate and the overall shape is lost).
As for the anatomy, have you tried looking up photos of spines online?

Yeah I suppose the feathers are the only way to make it look more broken.
And yes I checked some spines, but I only cared about the connecting part of the spine. Since it is wings you need a stronger and supportive spine, so I connected 3 vertebras and two bones on each side going to the ribcage. I'll do more work on spine as soon as I get a good idea on how to make it all look good.

wow, really like the idea.
might want to keep in mind though that the tattoo artist will have to interpret this. you could make it easier on them by making it completely line work with or without color. The shading on the bones right now isn't really doable with ink i don't believe.
maybe I'm wrong though, I don't know much about tattoos.

Myeah, the tattoo artist needs to be quite good Not sure the local one can do it. But it's worth the trip to get to a skilled artist.
Going to make a larger piece later on, just need to get a template of her back first.
