San Diego Comic Con 2009!!! (too early for excitement?)

    Hey kids and annual friends!
It's only two months until Comic Con hits in the Gaslamp District of beautiful San Diego!
Is it too early to get excited? I think not. Who is going to be there? Steph Laberis (the cooooolest!!), Dave Palumbo,
Forrest (fukifino), Jason Snair, Mike Vaillancourt (Undertow)... the usual awesome cats for sure!
I know there will be more, so chime in.

Also, if you are going to have any exciting new merchandise or projects, there is no shame
in plugging them here! What's that you say? You want me to kick it off? Why... don't mind if I do:

    Dakota Rawhide Book 1 (preview)

    WARNING! Contains adult language!

The book will be available first at Comic Con, so pop on down to booth #5357 in the
Illustrators' section and say hi! I'm sure we'll end up at Dick's Last Resort or something at
some point in time. Anyway, sound off, chime in, shout out and make some all around noise!
We all want to hear from you!

    Cheers,
    ~Daniel

I want to go but I'm not sure if I should be taking the time off from work. I'll have to see how things are going closer to the date of the convention.

peter: your loss if you don't make it down, son! Best make it happen

    Kilowatt: Oh yes it is!

Psychotime: You are missing out on all the whiskey/arm-wrestling fun that is Comic Con!

Dave: Oh hell yes! And it's about time: Booths and all the babes that come with them!... or something... where are you staying this year?

Nonie: Well we don't need no "registration" to know you're a pro, so don't sweat it!

Yikes, I haven't registered yet and won't have a new book this year... plus WonderCon sold me out of most of last year's book stock.

My plan is to get a hotel just outside of the city and pop down for a couple days, wander about, help out a few friends at their booths but it will be a lackluster year at SDCC for me it seems. Everyone needs an off year I guess.

    Edit:
Way to go Phuz, ya spelled my last name wrong. I THOUGHT WE WERE BFFs!!!

Ah damn! I'm so fired! Luckily, Mike is the only with that power and I got HIS name right... whew! Thanks for the love FOREST!
Registration is nearly sold out! Sunday is the only day left, unless you have strings you can pull, so you'd best hurry!

I got my pro reg stuff sent in but don't know if I'll qualify. All that I heard is that it could take 6 - 8 weeks for an answer. So I've got a Thursday ticket just in case.

I'm so excited I just CAN'T wait. I got to meet so many great artists last year, I can't wait to see who I'll meet this year. It would be great to hook up for lunch one of the days and get to meet everyone.

Pro reg was closed on May 5th if you're a new pro. Returning professionals seem to be exempt if you have your barcode and all that other jazz. I did mine online yesterday and was good to go. This year it's going to be crazy packed... even more so than last year.

I'll forgive you Dan, only if you buy me something with googly eyes at the Con

Ah crap, I tossed out my old pro badge and emails from last year sooooooooooooooooo I'm screwed. Picked up normal passes for Thursday and Sunday but Sunday may have been a waste, considering I'd be driving back that day. Ah well.

I usually start thinking about comic-con around Sept...so it's never too early.

    Can't wait to see everyone.

This year I'll be showing an art-book that a friend and I are putting together. We're building a psuedo art studio to help promote each others' works. It's gonna be hard cover and about 40 pages or so, with a little comic preview of another story we're going to do for 2010.

I have so much work to do to get done for it.

Picked up a Thursday pass, so I'll have to get all my conning in on one day. Hopefully we can all go out that night, since I probably won't make it down any other day. Still, looking forward to seeing everyone!

for those who snoozed on registering, don't forget that you might be able to buy on to other pro passes. As I recall, pros are allowed to add people for an extra $75 each. I don't know if there's a limit/deadline on it, but just putting that out there in case it helps.

I can't believe how sold out this year is, that show really needs to move to a larger space (*cough* Vegas *cough*)

edit: just adding some people to mine and according to the info on the site, pros are allowed to register one free adult guest and two paid ($75 each) adult guests. Also, you may not need a bar code to re-register, they say they keep records of attending pros for the past 3 years so you'd just need to get your confirmation code maybe over the phone or by email. I'll say again, I can't believe how sold out this year is. It's not even a circus anymore. It's turning into something else...

Great suggestion Dave! The available slots for pro's guest badges is rather long on the pro reg. I added 4 guests to mine, 1 free and the other the $75 passes. They're doing something a little different this year though. Last year the guest badges each received their own bar code. This year I have 1 bar code for all the badges. So make sure that if you register with a pro that you'll be able to go pick up your badge with them. I'm guessing that they're going to be checking ID's.

I have attended as a pro in the past. This year my schedule was booked, then it cleared after the registration deadline passed.
I have my old pro badges somewhere in my studio, I wonder if those would help me register? Does anyone want help sharing the cost of an artist alley spot?

    Just saw your edit Dan.

    I love you.

If some people get sick of the Con on Friday and Saturday, I'll prolly be driving to the zoo and other places in the area. for sketching and mischief. Just FYI

has it finally come to charging for them? It's been rumored before, but last I heard it was still free. Also, last year there were at least a dozen or so no-shows, which means that the tables go up for grabs on a sign-up sheet. The table next to me stayed empty the entire weekend. I don't think they'll assign you one before the show (technically they're all booked) but you can probably get one on site if you come prepared

    oooh. sketchin' and mischief.

Ya know, I've been going to San Diego now for 5 years and as far as exploring goes, I've only seen the zoo. I'd really like to wander around some. I hear Balboa park is supposed to cool.

Damnit, just today i realized i missed the pro registration by a few weeks. I probably won't be going.

Thank you Dave. It has been a couple of years and I cannot remember if I paid for my alley spot or not. I really want to be there this year. And yes, Balboa park is lovely and indeed very cool. I cannot wait to see my friends, old and new. :] I simply must make it.
