Imaginary: Thanks for commenting! and the good advice =)

    Hi! Nice Sketchbook!
Something I noticed about your latest painting is, that the hair seems not to be belonging to the person, but rather like beeing just layed ontop of the picture...
I guess it is because of the hard shadows of the hair strands, which cross the face and the edges between hair and shoulders/neck... it seems like they have thick outlines.. and the light situation of the hair does not seem to be the same as in the face, as well... Try to find a photography of hair which has similar strands crossing the face and compare it to yours
I hope I could help you a little bit 8]

She looks scary, hehe. On top of what Demodeus said you might wanna add some single strands of hair here and there, it'll make the hair more believeable i think. Oh and my first SPs felt flat too, so i got the advice to change my lighting setup to get some stronger shadows and it helped, so maybe you could try that. Keep it up!

Your works look really good, especially the absinthe fairy. As a crit, I'd say that you try to define the shapes like something separate from eachother, with separate textures for the different areas, and your works lack something that unifies the whole picture. I'd suggest working from random silhouettes, created by a few, big strokes. Try to define lights and shadows with more big strokes, using some of those textured brushes, and then go on by defining and rendering things.
Anyway, you're showing some good works! Keep it up!

My tribute to author Peter O'Donnell who passed away May 3rd 2010.

I grew up reading the Modesty Blaise comics/novels and she has always been a role model to me, and a big part of my life. I have a painting on the wall in my bedroom, or rather a framed print of an oil painting, depicting Modesty Blaise by the original artist Jim Holdaway. It has always been special to me since it's the only MB picture in colour done by Holldaway that I've seen and this piece is very much inspired by it.

    1. Barbarella, finished version of my chow entry

    2. Close ups from four paintings I'm working on, inspired by the works of author George MacDonald. North wind, Eve, Lilith and a mirage.
