    Winter Maiden

This is my first attempt at a more realistic face using lots of different reference of girls, but not sticking to any one specifically. After hours of trying to make it look even human , I don't really feel like I'm getting any impact from the face. I was going for just a calm expression but I think it's a little boring so I'm open to suggestions. I still want to aim for a more subtle expression but she's looking a little too "soul-less" right now.
I'm also at a quandary as to what her hands should be doing, I guess I could have her holding a tea cup or something...I don't know.

Anyway, I keep feeling like my artwork is lacking in "life" and tends too feel stiff and slapped on the canvas - I'd love to be able to give that feeling of capturing a moment in time but my pieces keep looking flat. I've been trying to solve this but I'm still stumped so any critique or impressions you have would be greatly appreciated.

It may be feeling "lifeless" because the skin looks a bit pale, and the lighting is neutral. The skin can be excused, considering the character, but the lighting could be focused on. Right now, there's no set light source; Define that first and it'll look much better already. To add to it, light has temperature: a warm light is more orange, a cold light is more blue or teal. You'll probably want a cold light in this picture, so perhaps have some subtle blue on her face and outfit in the direction of the light?

Awesome, thanks! I guess after using all that mixed reference, I totally eliminated the light source ^^; I'll go back and rework it with some cold lighting

Got a break between finals to work on this more. I'm still playing around with the face but I thought it would probably work better with the full figure in the composition, I'm not sure how big I should make my canvas though - any thoughts? Background-wise, I wasn't going to do much but I'm open to suggestions on that as well ^^
Anyway, free free to fire away any critiques you have, I'm still trying to develop my style and I haven't really done much digital painting so anything helps

    Quikenobi - thanks! I will ^^
