Trying to figure out if she should be leaning back against a large glass (snifter?) of Absinthe, or if she's going to be tipping the glass over in her hand and have it pouring out somehow. Whatever, early stages

Awesome WIPs so far people, some really interesting stuff happening in this thread! =D

Here's my start, not to sure what I'm doing but meh. She's suppose to be raving away in a crazy green laser club but I'm not quite there yet...The legs I'm still deciding on, I just can't seem to get them to "fit". Well if all else fails I'll just have to start again...

Garth - I think your idea has a lot of potential.
Tommy - your idea looks really fun
Lakeland - i really like your start. It seems mystical.
Posh - Need I say anything...other than no fair.
Icemoon - your idea seems classic, i like it.

I can't wait to see more progress.

Mara644 I really like that idea that death is dancing with her.
Tydal watch her arms, her shoulder are huge right now. The expression is nice though
IceMoon that doesn't look quite comfortable D: But cute!
kisou okay.. that's some very angry expression
curly well now I feel kind of intimidated.. great flyer!
    Sekino just too cute!

Well here's my progress... I'm going for some kind of gothic lolita
    look

I expect to start on the wings and clothes tonight. I'll probably add in some other element to make it more obvious who she is, either turn it into an advertisment or have her walking on the edge of a glass/bottle or maybe even on a stage surrounded by people drinking.

Okay, gotta stop for the day and go do the paying work.. and make dinner.

Dream_Sear: a sugar cube is a good idea...very literal, though. Not sure that's the direction I want to go there... I'm still toying with a couple of other ideas for her hands.

@Nadiamoon: Very cool idea. I´m interested in seeing what this will look like in the end.

@agnostes: Nice! Maybe it´s a little too green. Adding another colour may be a good idea to make it more interesting.

@AvisNocturna: Love you. I like your fairy a lot.

Amazing work so far, my favs are Mercuralis, Clochette, Max Martelli and I'm lovin' Katanasoul sketch.

My first sketch, just getting ideas down. Didn't want to go for the cute butterfly winged fairy, (because everyone else has done it far better that I ever could!) So I want to go for something a little more... Drunk.

Any crits are most appreciated, and any paint overs would be amazing!

    cheers
    matt

There's some really cool stuff from everyone. I'm really liking Clochette's and Lakeland's. Lakeland's is doing a great job of capturing the whole swimmy/lucid high feeling.

I'm going to switch from van Gogh to a flapper fairy. I hope it will translate well. Here's a quick sketch of the new idea.

NoShot: Really like your interpretation on this one. Nice expression, too
mechashiva: I think the bottom "pose/expression" suits her better. Also, green+maroon ftw. Can't wait for ya to FINISH THIS ONE ;D

Woo, throwing my hat in. I've only got the roughest of sketches so far. Needs some anatomy perspective work. Not sure if she's going to have wings.

I think she's like that crazy friend who has all those ideas that sound so great after you've had a few. And then you wonder why your left shoes are missing in the morning and your roommates won't speak to you.

    A few comments:

Mara644 - A darker interpretation, but not too grim. I like the nouveau feel.

IceMoon - I like the rather melancholy feel so far. I look forward to progress.

AmbientSounds - Very elegant pose. I think the tipping a glass would fit well. Maybe give her face a bit more expression of some sort too.

Tydal - I think you have a good start, but her head really needs to be bigger. Maybe try looking for pictures of dancing people for ideas for the legs.

kisou - That is an amusing and apt idea. Her boob area looks a little weird, but I'm not sure what you should do about it.

curly - I'm interested the see your progress. The poster thing is pretty cool.

Sekino - I love your style. Pleasantly simple.

AvisNocturna - Very nice so far. I like the colors a lot. I think you should be careful with her right leg (the folded up one). It doesn't look like it joins up to the body right.

Amber Alexander - I like the dancer idea. I think her legs need elongated a bit. And maybe make the higher hand a little smaller.

agnostes - Has a good wild feeling, I'd just like some more definition.

Mercuralis - Deliciously green and swirly feeling. Perhaps she could have a sugar skull instead of just a plain sugar cube?

Katanasoul - Very nice sketch, very classical looking. Her left (my right) leg looks a little weird where it joins the body to me.

Nadiamoon - I like how this is developing. I think the color shift was a good idea.

JailHouseRock2 - definitely looks like a mean drunk. The pose and expression are pretty good. My only thought is to maybe move the feet a little wider apart. I think it might give a drunker/more unsteady look. I really want to seen it in color now.

darknight - I'm interested to see how this looks as you render more. Do you plan on adding in any more colors? I think it would bring a bit more depth to the picture.

darthmarsh - I'm amused by the just one eyeball so far. Looking good.

NoShot - Yay for flapper fairies. That looks pretty cool so far.

Lt_Action - I like the troublesome expression she has. It might just be me, but it seems like her legs are a little short compared to the rest of her.

    Question!

Um.... Too Green?? Coloring on a laptop sucks sometimes.

jephita: Thanks! Yeah the face was just really rough and I thought a bit bland how it was. I like the style and motion of yours, cool start =)

Lt Action: Like the style, and her expression made me lol. She looks up to no good. XP

NoShot: ooOooo flapper, like that idea

darthmarsh: HAHA that expression is Bad@$$

darknight: cute, I like the big feet in the background. =)

JailHouseRock2: ...that is an awesome take on a fairy.

holy crap, some fantastic design so far... too many to mention but you all know who you are~! (pretty much everyone!) so heres my late night doodle, i want to work on the top composition but add some of the colors of the 2nd palette into it to add to the hallucinogenic nature using the concept of vibrating boundaries (colors which buzz next to each other to the human eye) and add more of a reflection to the water... but you get the drift...

please critique if you have time, thanks all! and good luck!

This is the sketch that I'll keep going with in Photoshop. The hand on her chest needs lots of work. Any other suggestions?

Max Martinelli: I know you'll keep working it, but I kinda like the sketchy line fairy with the fully rendered Van Gogh. That's really cool.

Take a look at my series of in-depth critiques, like this one of Salvador Dali's hidden portrait of Lincoln.

Scott's Sketchbook: Check out my sketchbook. Will swap C&Cs.

@Jefita: Thank you very much for telling me. I hope I could fix it now. Your fairy is very cool, very vibrant and lifely.

@Rustveld: Looove that... Really looking forward to the finished painting.

@scottmcd: Sorry, I can´t help with the hands now. Maybe it would be a good idea to ask somebody to do a reference phote from you holding your hands that way? (Even if you are male, it´s about hands still. )

@IIKII: Nice idea! I am interested in how that will turn out. Which novel was it that inspired you?

I hope the legs are ok now. As you all can see, I did the greyscales this afternoon. Now I have to hurry as my pilates lesson will start soon...
